Dahlia's POV
Diane's mouth curved into a bitter smile as she looked at me. "If I planned to involve the police, I wouldn't have come back here to scrub away every trace of what happened."
I moved closer and wrapped my arms around Diane's still-shaking form. The truth hit me like a punch to the gut. It wasn't that she didn't want justice. She was terrified that calling the police would backfire spectacularly.
She knew Taryn would blame herself and spiral into guilt. Brandon's hot temper would explode, and he'd charge headfirst into a battle he couldn't win. According to Diane, these men had money and connections flowing through their veins. Brandon wouldn't just fail to get revenge, he'd probably end up in handcuffs himself.
