Madge remained completely unaware that my true intention had been to sell the ruby from the very beginning.
Following the professional appraisal, the ruby's maximum value reached one million dollars, which exceeded my initial asking price by three hundred thousand dollars.
The logical choice was to proceed with the sale.
"I will pay you two million dollars, but you must honor the words you just spoke," Madge declared firmly.
"We have an agreement," I responded with a confident smile spreading across my lips. "However, I do not accept personal checks. Bank transfers only."
Madge showed no signs of hesitation whatsoever, as though she harbored genuine fear that I might reconsider my decision within the next moment.
Within twenty minutes, the notification for a two million dollar transfer appeared on my phone.
