Dahlia's POV
The moment I stepped into the Seastar Hotel lobby, I could see panic flash across Christina's face. Her usually composed demeanor cracked, revealing the anxiety she'd been desperately trying to hide.
"Dahlia, where have you been?" Her voice carried an edge I rarely heard from her.
Studying her nervous expression, I wondered if she thought I'd gone hunting for evidence of Soren's betrayal. The thought almost made me laugh.
"I told you I was having lunch with a friend. Have you eaten anything?" I kept my tone light, watching her carefully.
Relief flooded her features as she nodded quickly. "Ms. Xavier took me out for a meal. I also grabbed you coffee and some cake."
I accepted the coffee gratefully, taking a long sip before remembering the life growing inside me. A small amount should be fine, I reasoned, though I made a mental note to be more careful.
