Dahlia's POV
The footsteps outside my door finally faded away, leaving me alone with the chilling realization of what I had just overheard. My blood ran cold as the implications sank in. They wanted someone close to me to handle their dirty work. The only person who fit that description was Christina.
My breath caught in my throat. Could Christina really betray me? The thought sent ice through my veins, but I had to face the possibility. I knew better than anyone how fragile human loyalty could be when tested.
A bitter laugh escaped my lips. I understood human nature all too well. Everyone had their breaking point, their price. Money could corrupt even the purest intentions, turning sincerity into lies and friendship into betrayal. I hadn't known Christina long enough to trust her completely.
