Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: Mission — Covert Infiltration

Hearing Kanna's words, Kal'tsit looked over and saw Kanna standing at the opening, looking at Rosmontis with concern.

"Isn't Rosmontis asleep? I personally brought her back," Kanna asked, puzzled, looking at the unconscious Rosmontis.

"Sigh, it's my fault, I was too impatient. Her examination should have been done much earlier, but she has always been very wary of medical personnel. When I went to find her just now, I found her sleeping soundly, so I thought I'd do the basic checks after she fell asleep. But then, after she was brought here, other matters needed my attention, so I arranged for another doctor to receive her, and I didn't expect such a situation to occur."

Kal'tsit, uncharacteristically, didn't speak in riddles. After rubbing her forehead, she followed Kanna towards Lena's Greenhouse.

Upon reaching the Greenhouse, Lena, knowing the reason for their visit, quickly led them in. Although Rosmontis, if she were to awaken and go berserk again, might destroy her Greenhouse, Lena showed no hesitation.

Soon, as Rosmontis's fingers twitched, the others knew she was about to wake up and watched her nervously. Logos, beside them, silently began to gather his strength, just in case she lost control again, he could once more restrain her.

Upon waking, Rosmontis smelled a scent that brought her peace. When she opened her eyes, she saw familiar dragon horns and a pair of eyes filled with worry.

"I'm sorry," Rosmontis whispered. She remembered what had happened earlier. She had been sound asleep, but suddenly woke up to find herself in a sickroom again. Her emotions spiraled out of control, and she almost harmed the people nearby.

"It's alright, it's alright! This time, it's not entirely your fault." Kanna gently pinched Rosmontis's cheek, soothing her anxious emotions.

Logos, seeing that Rosmontis had woken up without losing control, silently dispelled his spell.

Only after Rosmontis peacefully fell asleep again in Lena's arms did the others finally relax.

After stepping outside, Kanna noticed Logos kept looking at her, intentionally or unintentionally. She tilted her head and stared back with a questioning gaze, "Is something wrong?"

"I heard about you on the way back, and I've heard other Operators' evaluations of you during this time."

"How is it? Isn't Kanna amazing!" Kanna proudly lifted her head, asking with a triumphant tone.

Logos had never dealt with a child like this before and was at a loss for words, so he fell silent.

"What's wrong? Why aren't you talking? Do you think Kanna isn't amazing enough? Do you want to spar?" Logos, the self-proclaimed king of Rhodes Island, was being cornered against a wall by a young girl for the first time in history.

He had heard Ace say that Kanna was a bit difficult to handle, but he didn't believe it, because Outcast also said that although Kanna was a bit mischievous, she was very obedient and highly intelligent. So he just thought of her as a clever but mischievous child, never expecting her to be such a handful.

The successor to the Banshee Queen rarely sent a signal for help to Kal'tsit.

Kal'tsit patted Kanna's dragon horns, "Alright, Kanna, I happen to have a mission here; would you like to accept it?"

"Of course, hmph hmph, Kanna is an Elite Operator."

I received a report that a dozen or so Infected were secretly gathering in a rest area on the lower level.

Red is currently unavailable, so I need you to check it out for me.

You're also a member of SWEEP, so this is a good opportunity to learn the ropes of the position.

According to the intelligence Kal'tsit received, those gathering were all ordinary Infected.

Even if some of them had malicious intentions, they couldn't possibly harm Kanna.

Kanna's youthful appearance also made her very suitable for this kind of mission, so assigning her to investigate what these people were up to also helped relieve Logos.

This was Kanna's first solo mission, and she was a little excited.

Before Kal'tsit could even tell her where they were, she skipped off.

After seeing Kanna leave, Logos straightened his collar and vanished from the spot.

He swore that unless absolutely necessary, he would never appear before Kanna again.

The little one was too terrifying now, not something he could handle alone.

After Kanna reached the lower deck of the ship, she suddenly realized that she didn't have a precise address.

The lower deck of Rhodes Island wasn't small, and finding a dozen people secretly hiding and discussing secrets in such a vast area wouldn't be easy.

At that moment, she felt she had been tricked; the old hag Kal'tsit had ill intentions, using a mission to fool her, an innocent little one.

"Beep beep beep!"

Just then, her communicator chirped.

When she opened it, Kal'tsit's calm voice came through:

"The rooms where they gather are generally in the E-section lounge.

However, those people have some anti-reconnaissance awareness; their meeting places are different each time, but always within the E-section.

So, you'll need to find them yourself.

Remember, your mission is only reconnaissance.

If not necessary, try not to expose yourself."

Kanna beamed after hearing this.

"Secret infiltration, huh?

That's just like an assassin, and she's very familiar with it.

As long as she isn't discovered (by eliminating everyone who discovers her), she can easily complete the 'infiltration.'"

She patted her chest, assuring Kal'tsit that she would complete the mission perfectly.

Just as an ominous premonition arose in Kal'tsit, Kanna decisively hung up the communication.

Kanna was quite familiar with the lower deck of Rhodes Island.

After all, to map out all of Rhodes Island's surveillance, she had run through every single area, especially the lower deck—since the exits were located there.

Soon, Kanna arrived at the E-section and began to prick up her ears, listening to the sounds around her.

Of course, to avoid attracting attention, she walked along the path with her usual curious expression.

In a room in Rhodes Island's E-section, several leaders were brainwashing the others:

"Think about it: although Rhodes Island has taken us in, what do we have?

No salary, no compensation, and no freedom.

They just keep everyone alive with those heavily diluted medicines, making us work all day and often overtime for those hateful doses.

You know, oripathy is a lifelong condition.

Are we supposed to spend our entire lives slaving away for this damned Rhodes Island in this dark, sunless place just because we have this disease?

Can you tolerate this?

I, for one, have had enough."

The leading extra A was very agitated, and his constantly waving hands made him very infectious.

Many people present became restless after hearing his words.

"We want freedom, we want medicine!

If Rhodes Island won't give it to us, then we'll take it!"
