In an apartment building in the capital a disturbed Lu Yanchen distractedly read Shi Nian response: I don't know whom you're talking about, brother Yanchen.
He didn't think Shi Nian was lying to him, but he couldn't think more about it.
After last night he seem to have never knew Shi Nian. Meeting her at the underground ring had changed his perception of her.
What kind of trauma would change her so much.
The Shi Nian he knew was bubbly, always smiling and looking mischievous but she was now cold and distant towards him.
Lu Yanchen couldn't help but blame himself. If hadn't been away Shi Wang would have been unable to act to boldly.
No matter how powerful the Shi consortium was Shi Wang wouldn't have been able to keep Shi Nian away from him.
Lu Yanchen had been sent away on a secret mission by the higher ups immediately after Shi Nian's parents funeral with no time to make any arrangement for her.
Even his parents were out of the country. His mother was grief stricken after the demise of her best friend Cheng Yuemin.
Their family of three rather his father thought it was better for his mother to leave the capital for a while.
Lu Yanchen couldn't help but regret their decision. They had never suspected or though the Shi family would be so audacious.
After he meeting Shi Nian last night he had an investigation over what happened to her in the past months and was left utterly stunned.
The Shi family really dared! The investigation also revealed Shi wang and the Shi family plot to take away Shi Nian's birth right.
Just as his fury was about to erupt he remembered the Cheng family.
Lu Yanchen directly dialed Cheng Yan— Shi Nian's eldest cousin. Not giving a greeting or a chance to speak he spoke
"Cheng Yan! What's up with you and the Cheng family? You couldn't even protect Shi Nian?!"
"How could you have allowed to suffer so much."
Cheng Yan frowned as he listened Lu Yanchen and earnestly replied "How can that be possible. Shi Nian had been under Shi Wang's care, except his ambitions—". His voice lowered as he was less confident about what he thought was the truth.
"Shi Wang's care?! Shi Wang is the one you couldn't protect her from! I didn't expect this from you!!" Lu Yanchen spoke even loudly not caring about the tone Cheng Yan spoke in.
"Nian Nian didn't say a word about Shi Wang's maltreatment! Shi Wang had kept her away due to his plot over her shares." Cheng Yan didn't think Shi Nian would keep it away from them.
"I didn't think he'd dare to maltreat her" Cheng Yan spoke in anger.
Cheng Yan would never know that Shi Nian wasn't just physically tortured but also mentally. She had lost the will to live and passed away in devastation.
"No matter what you think! You were to watch over her!!!"
"I'm back in the capital, I can protect Nian Nian now? I'll be pushing forward the wedding preparations" Lu Yanchen informed Cheng Yan.
"Yanchen! I can protect my sister (cousin) myself. The wedding whether it's on or off it's up to Nian Nian!" Cheng spoke irritably and ended the call.
Lu Yanchen even more felt exasperated after Cheng Yan ended the call. Getting married wasn't in his plans, but it was a way to protect Shi Nian and put his mother's heart at ease.
But Cheng Yan was right the marriage was up to Shi Nian.
Shi Nian wouldn't need my protection.
This thought popped up. Lu Yanchen felt some sense of loss. Even more he felt this was true.

Shi Nian got home feeling extremely exhausted. The feeling of exhaustion couldn't cover up the joy of the discovery she made today.

She was so happy that even Wanwan could notice her mood. Shi Nian didn't bother hiding her joyous expression.
"Wanwan I'll be having dinner in my room tonight!" She smoothly walked away.
Shi Nian chose to have a warm soak in the bathtub, "Phew! Having a warm bath is deeply comforting." Shi Nian couldn't help but sigh.
Her glance lingered over the water then noticed the full length mirror in the bathroom.
I ought to remind Wanwan to put this mirror away.
The previous Shi Nian had a little liking for admiring herself bathe.
After soaking for a while Shi Nian stood up from the bathtub. She swiftly wiped her body with a towel and walked out.
She noticed that Wanwan had already brought in her dinner. Shi Nian preferred having her meal in her room.
The dining room felt too lonely. While she didn't mind it, she rather do as she pleases.
Dinner tonight was some warm shrimp congee, simple yet Wanwan had included a lot of side dishes.
Later Shi Nian called Wanwan via the home telephone to put the dishes away.
Wanwan swiftly arrived and took the empty dishes.
Feeling more energetic, Shi Nian walked to the window. Tonight felt more peaceful than any night since she arrived in this world.
The window she had walked to was almost like a door, it could be pushed opened and there was a little bit of space to move around.
She sat on a mat she had placed there for her morning exercises and gazed at the moon.
A poem came to her mind as she watched. "The heart knows home when it finds it"
After watching for a while Shi Nian decided to go to bed.
Shi Nian had a peaceful look on her face, a beautiful smile on lips as she thought of the man she had thought of since she reincarnated.
Tonight Shi Nian slept more peacefully than she had ever done since she got the book from the Chengs.
The moonlight lingered on her, its light gently floating over her. Gently seeping into her meridians and nourishing it.
