Wasting no time, Jimmy first types a long password on the keypad before pressing enter and scanning his fingerprint and retina.
With that done, the pillar emits a low beep before its cover closes automatically as it sinks back into the ground.
Then, not even a second after that, the ground ahead sinks in strips, forming a staircase, giving a direct view to a short, well-lit underground hallway that led straight to an elevator.
As soon as Jimmy steps into the hallway, the staircase behind him rises, closing the entrance. He then enters the elevator and presses one of the two buttons there, the one that would take him down.
Some moments later, the elevator door opens to a giant underground warehouse.
Entering the warehouse, Jimmy quickly sees old man Peter sitting in a relaxed manner on a couch in the rest area, drinking a beer while loud music echoes through the place.
Approaching, Jimmy asks as he sits in an armchair next to the couch where the old man was sitting, "Hey, old man! What are you listening to?"
After another sip of his beer, old man Peter says, "Classical music, good stuff!"
"I didn't imagine you liked classical music, that's something new", raising an eyebrow, Jimmy comments, surprised.
"I listen to any shit that sounds cool to my ear", old man Peter replies, taking another sip from his bottle.
Resolving to change the subject, Jimmy asks, this doubt having arisen in his mind yesterday, "Anyway, answer me something, old man, you have all these resources at your disposal, why did you ask me to get you transistors when you could simply buy them easily?"
"If it weren't for this overly zealous operation, I would still be pretending to be a homeless guy, or did you forget that? Not touching these resources is part of the disguise", old man Peter answers, explaining his reasons very vaguely.
Nodding in understanding, Jimmy asks somewhat uncertainly, "And after today? Will you still need my help with the transistors?"
"Yes, our deal is still on! Besides, I'm not going to use my resources after today", old man Peter says; he hadn't used those resources before, so it's not now that he's going to use them.
"It's a stupid decision", Jimmy comments, merely pointing out how dumb this decision is.
"Fuck it, I'm old, I can make stupid decisions every now and then", huffing, old man Peter says in a mocking tone.
Washing his hands of the matter, Jimmy takes the opportunity to ask about the plan that would be put into action today, "Alright, do whatever you want! Anyway, is everything already prepared?"
"Yes, now relax your ass in the chair because we're only going out for Operation Little Girl when it's nighttime", old man Peter replies before taking another sip of his beer.
"Operation Little Girl?", Jimmy asks, surprised by the choice of name for the operation.
"That's the name I gave to today's operation, why?", old man Peter replies somewhat defensively, after all, he kind of likes that name.
"Nothing! Actually, it fits", huffing lightly, Jimmy says, shrugging.
=Scene Break=
A few hours later, at 8:03 PM, old man Peter gets up after seeing the time and turns off the record player, stopping the loud rock that was playing.
"It's time, you already know what to do", old man Peter says before leaving the rest area and heading to the isolated area of the base.
Standing up from the armchair he was in, Jimmy finishes his soda can before placing it on a coffee table beside a dirty plate and following the old man.
Arriving at the isolated area of the base, Jimmy sees a large white canvas tent inflated with air; next to the entrance, there is a metal cabinet.
Approaching the entrance, Jimmy takes off all his clothes and stores them folded inside the locker.
Now completely naked, he opens the hermetic door of the tent and enters, closing it behind him, with a soft hiss of air decompression sounding as he does so.
And as soon as he locks the door, sealing the environment, cold air with the smell of chemicals fills the place again, inflating the tent quickly.
This place that Jimmy had just entered was the antechamber of the isolated area, basically serving as a form of control over what was allowed to enter or not into the clean room; there, he would first take a disinfectant shower, put on a lab suit, and finally enter the place.
There were two shower stalls in the antechamber; one was being used by the old man, leaving only one free to use.
Then, without wasting time, Jimmy enters the free one and turns on the shower, instantly feeling a violent jet of hot water engulf him completely.
Some time later, the hot water is replaced by bone-chilling cold water, the water pressure remaining as strong as when it started.
As soon as the water stops falling on him, a powerful stream of air blows from the floor, drying him completely in an instant.
Exiting the stall, Jimmy passes by the other one, already open; the old man had finished his shower a few minutes ago.
Farther ahead, beside the shower stalls, was a cabinet with two open sections; one was empty while the other held lab clothes waiting for him.
He then puts on the clothes and enters the clean room, locking the hermetic door behind him; Jimmy was completely covered in white, wearing a hooded jumpsuit, gloves, combat boots, a mask, and protective goggles.
Inside the clean room, Jimmy sees old man Peter finishing putting on the rest of his equipment over the white clothing. It was basically another pair of black tactical pants over the ones he was wearing, a black windbreaker jacket, gloves more resistant than latex ones on his hands, and finally, a gas mask over everything on his head.
The old man then lifts the hood of his windbreaker over the gas mask before saying in a muffled voice upon noticing Jimmy entering the room, "Get dressed quickly, I'll wait for you in the van."
Then, while the old man heads toward a black van parked in front of another exit of the clean room, Jimmy approaches a metal table where equipment identical to what old man Peter had just put on was waiting for him.
Without wasting time, he puts on the equipment and heads to the van, which, by the way, was one of the reasons it had taken a month to prepare everything.
Besides the delay and complexity of building a functional clean room, the biggest challenge of all was definitely this van; he and the old man had to disinfect it completely, piece by piece.
Now, was all this work really necessary? Well, no, but the old man insisted that they needed a disposable transport/escape vehicle, and Jimmy simply didn't care enough to go against that questionable decision.
Moreover, Jimmy learned a lot about mechanics while helping the old man with the van.
Sitting in the passenger seat of the van, Jimmy watches the old man open the exit of the clean room before taking the driver's seat and turning the key in the ignition.
With the engine's roar echoing through the area, old man Peter drives the van through the base to the entrance of the underground racetrack.
