Driving into an old, abandoned gas station located a few minutes outside the city, old man Peter parks the van next to an old, rusty fuel pump.
"Grab the flashlights from the glove compartment", old man Peter says as he pulls the handbrake.
Jimmy then does as he was asked and hands one of the flashlights to the old man before turning on the remaining one.
With the flashlights on, the two then get out and start working, cleaning the baseball bats, the boots, and last but not least, the vehicle. All with chemicals previously stored in the back of the van.
About an hour later, at 11:01 PM, the two finish the cleaning, rinsing everything with water from a rusty tap located next to the pump where they parked.
Once everything is finished, old man Peter takes two full jugs of gasoline from inside the van and hands one to Jimmy.
The two then start spreading the fuel all over the vehicle, inside, outside, and around it, soaking the van completely.
Then, after putting the remaining fuel back into the van, old man Peter strikes a match and throws it toward the vehicle, which, not a second later, ignites into a hell of scorching flames, lighting up the darkness.
After a few seconds of watching the sea of flames from a safe distance, the two turn around and walk toward a square white sedan previously prepared for this moment.
After getting into the car, old man Peter leaves the gas station behind at high speed, tires screeching.
And as the two head back to the city, behind them, the van explodes shortly after they disappear on the horizon; in the end, it would be reduced to charred scrap by the morning, the flames simply consuming it completely, leaving nothing useful behind.
Now, back to Jimmy and the old man, they arrive at the secret base after some time driving; there, they discard the clothes they wore during the operation before heading out to the street again.
Not long after, old man Peter drops Jimmy, clean and dressed in his normal clothes, in front of the school before returning to the base in the city's industrial area.
Then, after watching the old man's car disappear completely after turning a corner, Jimmy quietly jumps over the two gates of the parking lot, returning inside the school.
However, while jumping over the last gate, Jimmy sees Mandy standing a bit off to the side, seeming to be waiting for him.
As soon as he lands on the parking lot ground, Jimmy asks, "What are you doing here?"
"Waiting for you! I was eager to know the outcome of everything", Mandy replies, wanting to know right away if everything went well.
"It all went well, he must be in the hospital right now", Jimmy says, informing her of the operation's success.
"Really?", Mandy asks, seeming excited by the idea that the pig was, at that very moment, in a hospital bed.
"Yes, and we couldn't have been more careful than we were", Jimmy replies calmly, only to be surprised shortly afterward.
"Mmm...", jumping excitedly onto Jimmy, Mandy kisses him deeply, only to pull away a few seconds later while saying, "... Don't tell anyone I did that, I don't want to mess up your thing with Christy! Anyway, try to talk to me more from now on, okay?"
Despite being surprised by the sudden kiss, Jimmy puts that aside and comments amusedly, "Well, this is news, you want me to talk to you more? I thought you hated me."
"I don't hate you, okay? It's not my fault if you misunderstood things", raising an eyebrow, Mandy says, defending herself.
"Wow, sorry if I can't see past that spoiled rich girl facade you're wearing!", huffing, Jimmy says sarcastically.
"I'm not wearing a facade, and I'm not a spoiled rich girl", Mandy defends herself, frowning.
Raising his eyebrows, Jimmy retorts, "You are, and saying you're not a spoiled rich girl is exactly what a spoiled rich girl would say."
"Alright, but even if I am wearing a facade, what's wrong with doing that?", admitting reluctantly, Mandy asks indignantly.
"The problem is that it's fake, artificial! And on top of that, the facade you chose to wear is annoying as fuck", letting out a sigh, Jimmy tells her the truth to her face.
"So what if it's fake? That's how I managed to fit in, I wouldn't have been able to do it any other way", even knowing that what he said is true, Mandy says, irritated.
Disagreeing with what she just said, Jimmy compliments her, an act that makes Mandy's expression soften, "I don't think that's how it is. You're pretty! You'd fit in no matter how you acted, and besides, being like that got you where?"
"I'm the queen of the school", Mandy replies, seeming proud; that façade took her to the top of the school's hierarchy.
"And are you happy with that? Because, as far as I know, that's temporary. Eventually, you'll graduate, and then what's left after you leave school? Your friends are fake, you don't have enough knowledge to get into a college, the only thing you have is your pretty face and body, and that leaves you with only a few options", completely shattering her pride and self-esteem, Jimmy makes it very clear that the path she's following would yield very little in the future.
"I... I could be a model, or an actress", not knowing how to respond to that, Mandy tries to argue, realizing more and more that her perfect life was a farce.
"To be an actress, you need to study too, but yes, you could! However, wouldn't that be lonely? Having to start everything over, and would you tell me that this time they'd be real friendships? Or would everything be fake again?", Jimmy continues, asking incisive questions that are making her think more and more about her life.
"You... you're right, I don't want that", Mandy stammers, lowering her head, her insecurity beginning to show.
Noticing this, Jimmy says, trying to lift her spirits, "Then stop hiding behind that facade."
With a slightly trembling voice, Mandy vents, "I... I'm scared, okay? I know everything around me seems fake, but... I just don't want to be alone."
"Just make new friends, this time being yourself", Jimmy says with a smile.
"The problem is that I don't know who I really am, and what if I'm just like this?", still with her mind shaken, Mandy asks with tearful eyes. The thing is, she went straight from being a child to this; she no longer knew if the facade she initially created to fit in was still just a, well, facade.
"You'll have to figure that out little by little, then! But I think it'll already be a big step if you stop being an asshole to the people around you for no reason", Jimmy says, being completely honest with her.
"I'll try...", Mandy says after a few seconds of silence, wiping her tears as she lifts her gaze to Jimmy.
Smiling warmly at her, Jimmy says, extending his hand toward her in a gesture of friendship, "That's already something! Anyway, start hanging out more with me and my group of friends."
"Are you sure?", Mandy asks, looking hesitantly at the outstretched hand in front of her.
"Yes, but don't expect to be treated like a queen! Ah, and don't listen to anything Gary says, he's a son of a bitch", taking her hesitant hand, Jimmy says while advising her not to trust Gary.
"I'm impressed by the fact that you're friends with that psychopath", Mandy comments while smiling slightly at the handshake.
"Meh, fuck him, now let's go back to the dorms, it's late, and I want to sleep", snorting, Jimmy gives Mandy a light pat on the shoulder before starting to walk.
"All right, I hope this whole being genuine thing was the right choice", looking at Jimmy's back with a smile, Mandy says as she follows him. She had gained her second real friend, and this time she hoped not to mess everything up.
