"Are you making a comic?", Melvin asks, pointing to a specific sheet.
It was a yellow page; at the top, there was the One Piece logo in stylized letters, just like the original.
Right below it was written 'Romance Dawn' in smaller letters, and in the middle of the page, there was a detailed, fully colored artwork of three young people, a girl on the left and two boys in the center, and on the right.
The three seemed to be relaxing and celebrating on a small boat in the middle of the sea, the girl was sitting on the railing of the boat with a smile on her face, her hair was orange, she had a voluptuous body, wore a white shirt with blue stripes, a yellow skirt, and in her left hand there was a pair of binoculars.
The boy on the right had short green hair, wore a white shirt with the chest buttons open, his waist was covered by a green striped haramaki, and he was wearing black pants. He was sitting on the floor in a relaxed manner, his face showing a huge smile as he raised a bottle of alcoholic drink into the air. And finally, beside him, there were three katanas leaning against the ship's railing.
And aside from the background scenery, with the open sea and a few seagulls, we finally arrive at the last character on the cover, the man who will become the King of the Pirates, though Melvin doesn't know that yet. The boy in the middle was in the air, with one arm stretched upward in celebration; his attire consisted of sandals, blue shorts, a red vest, and on his head, there was a straw hat that he held with his other hand. He had a scar just below his left eye, and just like the swordsman beside him, a gigantic smile was stamped across his face.
The cover was the only page that was completely finished, and its artwork was completely different from anything Melvin had ever seen in a comic; it was detailed and extremely well done, something that no work that had ever been or was currently being commercialized had on its résumé.
Even the sketches on the other pages managed to be more beautiful than many current highly successful works.
"Yes, I've had this idea for a while and decided to start working on it when I was transferred to this school", Jimmy replies as he sits down in his chair and points for Melvin to sit on his bed.
"What is it about?", Melvin asks after sitting down on the edge of the neatly made bed.
"On the surface, it's about pirates", Jimmy replies in a vague and mysterious manner.
Despite being curious about what lay beneath the surface, Melvin sets it aside and asks, "Do you intend to commercialize it?"
"Yes, when I manage to publish it, I'll get you a copy", Jimmy says, promising him a free copy.
"Man, this is so cool! I'd even dare to say that if the story of your comic is as good as the art, then congratulations! You have in your hands something that could be the best thing ever released in the history of comics", Melvin says enthusiastically at the idea of someone he knew having done something so incredible.
Smiling enigmatically, Jimmy changes the subject to what was originally going to be discussed, "You have no idea! Anyway, about my metalhead bard."
"All right…", the two then talk for a while about Jimmy's character, his origins, motivations, abilities that will be present from the beginning, and others that will remain hidden until the right triggers release them.
And while they talked, Jimmy made a quick, colorful drawing of how he imagined Eddie Manson, his character, to be. Overall, he was practically identical to his original inspiration, but there were small design differences.
In the drawing, he was relaxed in a chair with his legs crossed on top of a table in front of him; in his hands, there was a guitar, and he seemed to be playing something. He was dressed in black boots, jeans ripped at the knee, and a white long-sleeved shirt under a black leather jacket.
And finally, his eyes were covered by the reddish lenses of his aviator goggles, and tied around his head, like a durag, was a red bandana with white stripes.
"Here, this is how I imagine him at the start of the campaign", Jimmy says as he hands the sheet to Melvin.
"Cool, this conversation gave me a lot of ideas, and basically made your character from now on intrinsically linked to the story I prepared", Melvin exclaims, completely excited about what he had in mind.
Raising an eyebrow in surprise, Jimmy asks, deducing what Melvin wanted to do, "You're going to tie my character's backstory to the campaign's story?"
"Yes, I even already know how I'm going to start the campaign", Melvin comments excitedly. Jimmy's character's backstory had given him the perfect way to start the campaign.
"Let me guess, the incident of the failed ritual is going to be the initial clue that will lead to the rest of the adventure?", Jimmy asks; after all, that incident and everything surrounding it were the focal point of his character's traumas.
"That's right, but enough questions and deductions, I don't want to ruin the surprise", nodding in confirmation, Melvin comments, not wanting to give spoilers.
"All right, no more questions then! Anyway, is there anything else to talk about?", raising his arms in surrender, Jimmy asks, wanting to know when Melvin was going to leave, after all, he had things to do.
Standing up, Melvin asks while pointing at the drawing of Eddie Manson in his hand, "No, we're done here! By the way, can I keep the drawing?"
"Sure", Jimmy shrugs as he walks him out of the room.
Leaving the room, as they pass in front of the dorm common room, the two see Gary bothering Pete, who is sitting on the sofa, trying to watch television.
"Cut it out, Gary! I'm trying to watch this", fed up with the constant pinches and flicks to the back of his neck, Pete complains as he tries to push Gary away with his arm.
Coming out from behind the sofa, Gary shakes Pete's head before positioning himself right in front of the television. "Ahhh! The swim team! Honestly, it doesn't seem that fun to watch!"
Swinging his body from side to side, Pete says, while trying to watch television behind Gary, "Come on, man! Get out of the way, it's not interesting for you, but it is for me!"
"Ohh! And what is interesting to you, Petey? Is it the girls dressed in tight and revealing swimsuits? Do you like looking at them?", Gary asks with a smile on his face, provoking Pete.
"What's your problem, man! Just get out of the way, you're in the way", looking strangely at Gary, Pete says, wanting him to get out of the way already.
