"There are several important rules regarding this exam..."
After Ibiki and everyone had found their seats, he wrote the exam rules on the blackboard with chalk.
"First, each of you starts with 10 points. There are 10 questions in total, each worth 1 point. This exam uses a negative scoring system!"
"In other words, if you answer all the questions correctly, you get 10 points. If you get 3 questions wrong, 3 points will be deducted from the full score, leaving you with 7 points!"
Hearing this, Itsuki's mouth curled up slightly.
You start with 10 points, and they're only deducted if you answer incorrectly.
In other words, if someone hands in a blank test, it won't be marked wrong, no points will be deducted, and they'll still technically keep all 10 points.
Of course, even if someone notices this loophole, nobody will risk handing in a blank paper.
People will still try to fill in the correct answers.
The true purpose of this exam is to test intelligence gathering ability.
Rule 2: The exam is conducted in teams of three. The total score of the three teammates will be counted, and ranking is based on that total.
Rule 3: If you're caught cheating, 2 points will be deducted each time.
Once all 10 points are deducted, you'll be expelled from the exam room.
"Remember all of this!" Ibiki grinned darkly. "Clumsy cheating attempts are only digging your own grave. If you want to become Chunin, act like real shinobi!"
"One last thing. After the exam, if any team member is disqualified or scores 0, the entire team will be disqualified!"
The moment that last rule was announced, most people's faces turned pale.
In every squad of three, there was bound to be a "weak link."
People could trust their own knowledge, but having absolute confidence in their teammates' written test ability? That was another story entirely.
Just like with Team 7 at this moment—Sakura and Sasuke were staring daggers at Naruto, who was clawing at his hair with a look of utter despair.
If Itsuki didn't already know the actual purpose of this test, he would probably be panicking too.
He himself hadn't been a top student during his Academy days.
Karin had been wandering around most of her life and had never received a proper education.
And Yakumo, who had been unable to even participate as a ninja until recently, never had the chance to learn proper theory either.
To sum it up, all three of them were the "poor student" type.
If they relied only on their knowledge, they might not even reach 10 points combined.
"Karin has the system harem chat group to rely on, so she'll be fine. But Yakumo..." Itsuki glanced at her quietly.
Since he hadn't revealed the test's details beforehand, nor discussed any strategy with them, Yakumo was clearly uneasy.
But thankfully, she wasn't panicking. She was simply thinking.
She's a smart girl. She'll figure out the same thing others will—don't make reckless moves right away.
After quickly scanning the test paper, Itsuki confirmed it was just as brutal as in the original story.
Out of the first nine questions, he only knew one—the science problem he could solve thanks to knowledge from his previous life.
He had thought the three of them might at least scrape together 10 points total, but reality was cruel.
Combined, they might only get that 1 point.
In the classroom, many candidates were already putting their unique skills to work, attempting to cheat.
In the [Itsuki Harem Chat Group], Konoha's four girls and Karin were already discussing things.
Eventually, Sakura gave in and shared her answers in the group.
But she had one condition—Ino had to use her Mind Transfer Jutsu to help Naruto copy the answers.
Yakumo used her sensory abilities to force some cheaters to hand over their answers, and then tossed a copy toward Itsuki.
"Well then, all we have to do now is wait for the tenth question."
Itsuki leaned against the desk, propping up his chin with one hand while twirling his pen with the other.
He let his senses spread out, imprinting every single cheating method in the classroom into his mind.
"But honestly... just sitting here waiting is boring. Let's spice things up a bit."
The pen slipped from his fingers, clattering onto the desk.
His free hand subtly formed a single seal.
The next second, a candidate in front of him suddenly stood up and slammed his test paper onto the desk of the guy next to him.
"Come on, buddy, copy mine and you'll pass!"
The poor bastard next to him froze, looking completely dumbfounded.
No, what the hell? I should be thanking your whole family, but could you not announce it out loud in front of the entire room?!
Now everyone's watching—how the hell am I supposed to copy it?!
Thunk!
A kunai flew across the room, piercing through both test papers and embedding itself into the desk.
"Candidates #56 and #57, disqualified," an invigilator sitting nearby declared.
It was him who had thrown the kunai.
And while he said it, his sharp gaze flickered toward Itsuki. He had clearly noticed something unusual.
Itsuki grinned back at him, not bothering to hide anything. He was just that bold.
"You've dragged me into this mess!" Candidate #57's face went pale.
But he was too meek to protest and just stood up miserably.
Candidate #56, however, panicked. "No, wait! That wasn't me! I was being controlled! And even if I did cheat, don't I get five chances first?!"
He tried to argue, but the invigilator just grabbed him by the collar and tossed him aside.
"Listen, we're all elite Chunin selected specifically for this exam. We make the rules in here, and we decide how to enforce them. If you don't like it, get strong enough to do something about it."
Ibiki checked the list and coldly announced:
"Those in the same group as #56, #83, and #165 are disqualified. Also, those in the same group as #57, #96, and #187 are disqualified."
The other four protested, but under the death glares of the proctors, they had no choice but to leave.
The entire room turned their eyes toward Itsuki.
So this was the rumored "jonin-level genjutsu"? Eliminating six candidates without lifting a finger.
But what unsettled people the most was this:
Normally, candidates were disqualified only after being caught cheating five times. Yet both #56 and #57 had been kicked out immediately.
So what was the real reason?
Was it because being manipulated by Itsuki's genjutsu counted as sabotaging your own mission? Or because their blatant outburst disrupted the exam's order, warranting instant removal?
"This is going to get interesting," Itsuki thought with a sly grin, spinning his pen again like nothing had happened.
His little stunt had given some candidates an idea.
Originally, everyone was focused on cheating. But now, another option appeared—eliminate competitors instead of trying to outscore them.
Unfortunately, not everyone was Itsuki.
Clumsy cheating attempts led to point deductions.
Clumsy attacks led to instant elimination.
