Chapter 130 - Chapter 129: The Desperate Tenth Question

Illusion techniques weren't exclusive to Itsuki—some candidates also secretly tried to use genjutsu.

But none of them could remain as calm as Itsuki.

He had formed over a dozen hand seals right in front of the proctors, his chakra surging noticeably, and still acted like nothing was wrong.

Did these candidates really think the invigilators were blind?

Before they could even finish their jutsu, they were kicked out of the exam room.

Some even tried to use escape techniques, dragging others into their schemes to shift the blame.

But again, they were stopped before they could succeed.

The truth was simple: these proctors were elite Chunin with razor-sharp eyes.

They could see every tiny movement.

Of course, they weren't blind to the cheating methods floating around the room—they just didn't interfere as long as it fit within the "ninja way" of cheating.

But if someone tried to play them for fools, that only brought more trouble.

After a short wave of chaos, no one succeeded in disrupting the order.

The unlucky few were dragged out, while the rest could only glare at Itsuki with resentment.

It was all his fault—because of him, many candidates had been eliminated.

Not only did the other examinees hate him, but even Ibiki and the proctors were annoyed.

If Itsuki hadn't started it, they wouldn't have had so much extra work.

[Yamanaka Ino: Haha, Itsuki is so mean. I just used my Mind Transfer Jutsu to knock out a few people too. No need to thank me—just call me Ino the Good Samaritan!]

[Haruno Sakura: Ugh! Someone next to me suddenly jumped up just now, scared the hell out of me. But thanks to Itsuki, at least it's quieter now.]

[Uzumaki Karin: As expected of Itsuki-kun. I'd love to do the same, but my only attack is the Adamantine Sealing Chains—and that makes way too much noise.]

[Tenten: I wish I could summon some ninja tools to clear out all the Kusagakure guys. But hey, someone actually tried that just now and got stopped by the examiner. Lucky bastards, not a single one got eliminated.]

[Hyuga Hinata: With my Byakugan, I saw many Kusagakure candidates don't even have cheating methods. Their answer sheets are still blank. But in the future video, it looks like they all passed?]

[Haruno Sakura: If I'm not mistaken, the real key is the tenth question. I wonder what it'll be—but it must be brutal.]

[Yamanaka Ino: Yeah, everyone's done copying by now. I feel like the tenth question's about to be announced.]

Sure enough, not long after Ino's words, Ibiki cleared his throat and said coldly:

"Alright, it's time for the tenth question."

The first nine questions were just a filter. The real exam began now.

For those who hadn't managed to copy the answers, everything rode on this final question.

The atmosphere was suffocating as everyone swallowed nervously.

Unlike in the original timeline, Naruto's test paper was already filled in—thanks to Ino's help.

He didn't understand what had just happened, but with nine questions as backup, he was brimming with confidence.

"Regarding question ten, I'm going to add a few more rules," Ibiki sneered. "Rules of pure despair."

The sudden shift made many candidates go pale.

If they couldn't solve the first nine, how could they possibly handle this?

Meanwhile, in the Jonin lounge, the instructors were enjoying their rare downtime.

"It's nice to relax without having to babysit my team," Kakashi said, sipping his tea.

Asuma exhaled smoke. "Don't get too comfortable. Things are about to get busy."

Kakashi blinked. "What do you mean?"

Asuma smirked. "The first exam's proctor this year is Morino Ibiki."

Kakashi nearly spit his tea. "That sadist? Seriously?"

Kurenai Yuhi tilted her head. "Sadist? What do you mean?"

Asuma explained, "You're new to the Jonin rank, so you wouldn't know. Ibiki's the head of Konoha's Torture and Interrogation Division. A specialist."

Kurenai's eyes widened.

Although there would be no physical torture in this exam, Ibiki would absolutely apply interrogation techniques to crush the candidates mentally.

Back in the exam hall, Ibiki laid down his rules.

"First, I'll give you a choice: take the tenth question, or don't."

"If you don't take it, you'll get 0 points and your entire team will be disqualified."

"What?! Then of course we'll take it!" several candidates shouted nervously.

Ibiki ignored them, his grin spreading.

"But there's another rule. If you choose to take the tenth question and answer incorrectly, you will never be allowed to take the Chunin Exams again. Ever."

The words hit the room like thunder.

Even the confident ones stiffened, their hands trembling.

What kind of bullshit rule was that? If you fail once, you're banned for life?

Some candidates had already taken the exam multiple times—like Kabuto Yakushi.

If this rule had always existed, he'd have been stuck as a Genin forever.

Ibiki's shadow loomed over them, his laugh low and cruel.

"You're just unlucky," he said. "This year, I'm the one making the rules."

"But I'll give you a way out. If you're not confident, don't take the tenth question. Quit now, and you can try again next year."

His voice cut like a blade:

"Now choose. Question 10—do you take it, or not?"

The silence was suffocating. Under the psychological weight, many began to crack.

One by one, hands shot up.

Some candidates chose to quit rather than risk being stuck as Genin for life.

It was humiliating, but safer.

Better to live and fight another day than gamble everything and lose your future forever.

Just like a real mission: when survival is at stake, retreat is sometimes the only option.

"He understands people's hearts too well," Asuma said in the lounge, his tone grim. "That's what makes Ibiki terrifying. He applies psychological pressure until people expose their weaknesses."

No vagueness. No excuses. Just raw fear.

In the exam room, Itsuki leaned back in his seat, watching with interest.

Even he had to admit—the suffocating atmosphere Ibiki created was making him feel a little nervous.

In this environment, even the most confident shinobi would waver.

Was he truly certain he could pass?

What if something unexpected happened?

Was he really willing to risk being a Genin forever?
