"Damn it! How did you find us?"
Three Kusagakure shinobi lay in a pool of blood, one of them barely managing to speak.
They had mastered Earth Release and could merge their bodies into the rocks nearby.
It was supposed to be their trump card, their safety net. But when Karin attacked, her chains struck them down as well.
The "helpless" Humanoid Pill they had once ridiculed had grown terrifyingly strong in just a few short months after leaving Kusagakure.
With one move, all six of their teams were wiped out, losing any ability to resist.
"I'm not obligated to answer your questions," Karin said coldly.
She stared at the Kusagakure shinobi as if they were ants.
Their bodies were riddled with holes, blood pooling everywhere, but none of it made her flinch.
Even though this was the first time she had caused such a bloody scene, she felt no nausea—only relief.
"I… I don't want to die… Please… save me…"
One of the Kusagakure shinobi stretched a trembling hand toward Karin, his eyes filled with the fear of death.
But his plea didn't move her at all. Karin's gaze remained indifferent as she listened to their screams.
Everything she had buried inside burst forth at once.
"I won't kill you," Karin said flatly. "Whether you live or die depends on your luck."
With that, she turned away, quickened her pace, and in a few leaps threw herself into Itsuki's arms.
Itsuki felt her trembling.
He couldn't tell if it was from excitement after finally releasing her rage, or fear from what she had done—or maybe both.
She was still just a teenage girl. The fact she hadn't collapsed outright was already remarkable.
"It's over," Itsuki murmured, stroking her back gently.
Burying her face in his chest, Karin whispered, muffled, "I know they don't represent everyone… but this is enough. I don't want anything to do with them anymore.
Itsuki… am I too cowardly? Am I even qualified to follow you?"
In truth, those Kusagakure genin had only bullied Karin and her mother with words. The real culprits who ruined her life were Kusagakure's higher-ups.
Strictly speaking, her revenge here wasn't true vengeance—it was just venting.
"No," Itsuki denied firmly. "Even though they hurt you, you still couldn't bring yourself to kill them directly. That doesn't make you cowardly—it makes you kind.
Hatred can make you strong, but it also brings pain. Let it go, Karin. Leave the past behind and embrace the future. I'll always be part of that future."
Her breathing softened. Comforted, Karin drifted off to sleep in his arms.
Smiling faintly, Itsuki used Wood Release to clear the logs and rocks blocking their path, then urged the brown bear forward toward the Central Tower.
He didn't bother collecting scrolls from the fallen Grass shinobi—they were too filthy for him to touch.
Yakumo, sitting beside him, stared at Karin with new respect.
She hadn't taken her teammate seriously until this moment.
As they traveled, Itsuki told her about Karin and her mother.
Tragedies like this were everywhere in the ninja world. Many who turned to darkness did so for reasons others could never fully understand.
Yakumo listened quietly, her gaze toward Karin softening.
Near the Central Tower, the situation was chaotic.
Teams who still hadn't secured both Heaven and Earth scrolls were desperately trying last-minute ambushes.
After Itsuki's group left, several teams rushed to the bloody field, hoping to steal scrolls from the weakened Kusagakure shinobi.
Among them was the Sound Ninja trio led by Dosu Kinuta.
They had once been ordered to challenge Sasuke but were crushed by him after he resisted Orochimaru's Cursed Seal. Only by surrendering their scroll had they survived.
After days of hiding and recovering, they still had no scrolls. This was their last chance.
But they were unlucky. Injured and outnumbered, they barely managed to snatch one scroll—only for Zaku to brag out loud and draw everyone's attention.
The result: another brutal beatdown, more serious injuries, and their scroll stolen once again.
The battle turned into a bloodbath until the Konoha Anbu finally appeared and declared the second exam over.
Anyone who hadn't reached the Central Tower in time was eliminated, no matter how many scrolls they carried.
Among the Kusagakure shinobi, only one managed to cling to life.
Meanwhile, Itsuki, Yakumo, and the sleeping Karin arrived at the Central Tower on the bear's back just before time expired.
Naruto's Team 7 had already arrived.
When they opened their scrolls, the instructor summoned was none other than Iruka.
"Teacher Iruka, I thought you were only responsible for Naruto's team," Itsuki teased after hearing his explanation of the Heaven and Earth scrolls.
Iruka's forehead twitched. Placing his hands on his hips, he scolded, "Don't forget! Even if you're strong now, even if you're favored by seniors and joined Anbu early, you're still just a Genin. I've been a Chunin for years. Do you really look down on us that much?"
"No, no, teacher, you misunderstood!" Itsuki grinned. "I don't look down on Chunin. I just think you care more about Naruto than anyone else.
He passes the exam, and you're thrilled. But the rest of us? Just average, huh?"
Iruka froze, clearly flustered. "W-Where did you hear that rumor? That's not true! You're all my students, and I treat everyone equally."
Itsuki folded his arms, smiling skeptically.
"Enough already!" Iruka snapped. "Get inside the meeting hall. The Third Hokage will address everyone soon."
Itsuki chuckled, deciding not to push him further.
For all his bias, Iruka was still one of the kindest, most devoted teachers in Konoha. Itsuki respected that.
"See you next time, Teacher Iruka!" Itsuki waved as he left with Karin and Yakumo.
Just before Itsuki vanished inside, Iruka suddenly called out:
"Itsuki! Keep working hard. I want you to be the first of my students this year to become a Chunin!"
"Huh? Not Naruto?" Itsuki pretended to act shocked.
"Get lost!"
Iruka cursed with a laugh, shaking his head as he muttered to himself:
"This kid has grown more lively than anyone else… I misjudged him back then. From now on, I can't afford to generalize about my students ever again."
