Chapter 172 - Chapter 171: Jiraiya Felt a Little Sour

Konoha, at taverns.

"I didn't expect that you, who left so cleanly without looking back, would return after all!"

Jiraiya took a big gulp of sake and stared across the table with drunken eyes.

Sitting opposite him was Tsunade, who looked exactly the same as when she had left.

Tsunade was elegant and refined, sipping her drink slowly, her demeanor much more restrained than before.

Tsunade sneered. "Haven't you been wandering around for years? Why are you willing to come back now? I have a reason. What about you? Why?"

Jiraiya was silent for a moment, avoiding a direct answer.

Finally, he muttered: "I've heard some of your reasons. It was Itsuki, wasn't it… I didn't expect the Second Hokage's line would leave descendants. That was truly unexpected."

At the mention of Itsuki, Tsunade's lips curled into a faint smile, pride flashing across her face.

She murmured softly: "Yes… in him, I see the figures of my grandfather and granduncle when they were young. It makes me nostalgic."

"Hey, hey, aren't you mistaken?" Jiraiya said, startled. "Shouldn't it be Nawaki—"

The moment he said that name, Jiraiya paused, watching Tsunade's face carefully.

Fortunately, her expression did not change. She seemed to have finally walked out of the shadow of that tragedy.

How rare!

It seems I need to find an opportunity to meet Itsuki myself.

There must be something special about him. It can't just be blood ties that helped Tsunade overcome her trauma.

Tsunade shot Jiraiya an unhappy glare before sighing softly. "Nawaki was my younger brother. I knew him better than anyone. Honestly… he was just a braggart who loved to show off. He was nothing like Grandpa."

"Itsuki is different. He's truly talented and exceptional. One day, I believe he will surpass all his ancestors and become a one-of-a-kind existence."

The chat group is proof!

Although she still wasn't sure what direct link Itsuki had to the harem chat group, the group brought them great benefits and strength. It clearly revolved around him.

Jiraiya raised his eyebrows. Tsunade's evaluation of Itsuki was extremely high.

This only made him more curious.

He had been teaching Naruto for a while now. The boy, scorned by many as a "demon fox," often mentioned Itsuki. Every time Naruto said his name, his eyes lit up.

Jiraiya had even asked around for information but only managed to dig up superficial details.

"The reason you came back is because Orochimaru appeared in the village, isn't it?" Tsunade pressed, smirking. "After all these years, you haven't changed at all."

Jiraiya shook his head. "Not entirely. I came back because of something else. It sounds unbelievable, but I need to tell you so you'll be on guard."

Tsunade was startled by his serious tone and immediately sobered up.

Then Jiraiya explained everything he knew about Akatsuki.

He had discovered them while tracking Orochimaru, who was once part of the organization.

At first, he only knew Akatsuki as mercenaries led by S-rank rogue shinobi from across the nations.

It wasn't until recently that he discovered their true target—Jinchūriki. Or more accurately, the tailed beasts sealed within them.

That was why he returned to the village: to deliver this message and to guide and protect Naruto.

After a pause, Jiraiya added: "I also heard that Itsuki awakened Wood Release—the same power as the First Hokage. Besides the Sharingan, nothing restrains tailed beasts more effectively."

"If Akatsuki is after the tailed beasts, then Itsuki will likely be one of their targets…"

Itsuki was Tsunade's Achilles' heel.

The moment she heard that, Tsunade's fury exploded. She raised her fist as if to smash Jiraiya, who immediately leapt back in panic.

But at the last second, she forced herself to stop. She grabbed her glass instead, but her hand trembled, and the glass shattered in her grip.

"If anyone dares touch Itsuki, I'll skin them alive!" Tsunade snarled, her teeth clenched, her voice venomous.

It was the first time Jiraiya had ever seen Tsunade this ruthless, and he shuddered.

But he understood. The once-mighty Senju clan had been reduced to a single bloodline—Itsuki.

He wasn't just Tsunade's last blood relative. He was a treasure returned to her after being lost, filling the void in her heart.

Perhaps nothing and no one was more important to her than Itsuki.

Thinking this, Jiraiya couldn't help but feel a pang of sourness in his chest.

That kid… how enviable.

Still, when I meet him, I'd better look sharp. At least that will balance things out a little.

In Itsuki's backyard, Karin had just finished replicating the future video training.

She dismissed Tenzo, who had assisted her, and sat down in the pavilion where Yakumo was exercising.

Her face was tired but full of joy. Her strength had improved again!

By following the future video's results, she had reversed cause and effect, saving herself a lot of time.

"This way, the gap between me and Itsuki won't keep growing wider, right? If a battle comes, I can fight alongside him!" Karin's joy was overflowing, impossible to contain.

"That's amazing!" Yakumo praised beside her.

"When you use that technique, I can't pull you into my illusion space. Maybe even if I did, it would disrupt my genjutsu. Want to try?"

"Forget it!" Karin rejected instantly, her joy shrinking a little.

She had been inside Yakumo's illusion space once before, and she never wanted to feel that helplessness again—her senses controlled, her body like a puppet.

Yakumo shrugged and didn't press further.

She sat down next to Karin, murmuring softly: "Itsuki's been gone over twenty days. There are less than ten left until the third round of the Chunin Exams. Will he make it back in time?"

Karin nodded, missing him too. "According to Lady Tsunade, Itsuki's Sage Arts training is almost complete. He should be back soon, right?"

"Originally, I wanted to sign a contract with Lady Slug, but Lady Tsunade refused. She said I had to wait for Itsuki to return. But Sakura was allowed. Totally biased!"

Yakumo chuckled. "If you signed now, you'd probably find a way to reverse summon yourself to the Shikkotsu Forest to see him. You wouldn't be able to focus on training. Lady Tsunade is protecting you."

Karin blushed, embarrassed her thoughts were so transparent.

"Oh, right!" Yakumo asked with a smile. "What about Honoka? The girl we brought back? I haven't seen her around."

Karin rested her chin in her hands, eyes distant. "Lady Tsunade arranged for her to be an assistant teacher at the Academy. Since her past life was… detached from normal people, Lady Tsunade hopes being with students will help her adjust. She can learn while teaching."

"That makes sense," Yakumo agreed with a nod.
