As the time for the third round of the Chunin Exams approached, more and more outsiders arrived in Konoha.
Unlike the chaos at the start of the exams, when fights and disturbances broke out frequently, most newcomers now were wealthy merchants.
Their arrival boosted Konoha's economy, so the villagers were generally welcoming.
As for Daimyō, they would only arrive at the last moment—coming too early would not be impressive.
But for ninjas, such things didn't matter much.
Perhaps because Orochimaru had appeared in the second round, Konoha's defenses had been tightened.
Other than that, just as Kabuto Yakushi had predicted, everything remained unchanged.
The contestants preparing for the main event of the third round were all focused on strengthening themselves.
The girls in the chat group were working hard according to the abilities shown in the future videos. Before the exams began, they had nearly mastered those skills.
Some originally wanted to gain Itsuki's favor before the exams started, hoping to raise the group's level and strengthen themselves.
Unfortunately, Senju Itsuki had been absent from the village the entire month.
If Tsunade hadn't visited the Shikkotsu Forest every few days, some would have suspected something had happened to him.
It wasn't until two days before the exam that Itsuki finally returned.
The girls who heard the news rushed to see him, but Tsunade turned them away, saying Itsuki needed to adjust his condition before the Chunin Exam.
Though dissatisfied, none dared protest against Tsunade.
"Ah! I'm finally back. I've been exhausted lately!"
Itsuki stretched, then flopped onto the sofa without moving.
It was daytime, and the only ones at home were Kana, who was doing housework, and Karin and Yakumo, who were training in the backyard.
After Shizune's return to Konoha, she had been assigned to work at Konoha Hospital.
Tsunade had finally accepted the Third Hokage's pleas and taken charge of the hospital, though Hiruzen still hadn't discovered Itsuki's grandmother's identity.
Honoka had been assigned as an assistant teacher at the Ninja Academy.
After classes, she stayed late to study and rarely came home early.
This was Itsuki's current family situation.
"I heard you went to a holy land to train in sage arts. Did everything go well?" Kana asked, joy flickering in her eyes as she walked over and gently massaged his head.
"It's fine. For me, training is as easy as eating and drinking. I just delayed it because of other things."
Itsuki lay on Kana's lap, using her thigh as a pillow, his expression comfortable.
Still, he muttered, "I've been bleeding a lot recently, burning through chakra, and my body feels weaker than before."
Kana stroked his brow, her voice full of concern. "You don't look as good as before—you've lost weight. I'll make you some restorative food. But if you went there to train in sage arts, why all the bloodletting?"
She trusted he had his reasons, but her heart ached for him. Thankfully, he seemed only tired, not harmed at the foundation.
"I… raised a damn money-draining mutt!" Itsuki groaned, face dark. "If I'd known it'd be like this, I never would've raised it!"
Kana didn't understand, but she could tell he was venting more than anything.
"There's not much I can do," she said softly, "but when you're tired, come back home. At least here I can help you relax."
"Aunt Kana, thank you." Itsuki closed his eyes, truly at ease.
Her massage was so skilled he nearly drifted off to sleep.
"Compared to what you've given me and my daughter, this is nothing," Kana said gently, her eyes tender.
Life here was the life she had always dreamed of—a real family. For that, she owed everything to Itsuki.
Her only fear was that one day he wouldn't need her anymore.
"Itsuki-kun! Itsuki-kun!"
A lively voice rang out as a figure rushed inside.
Seeing Itsuki on the sofa, Karin's eyes lit up.
She leapt forward, landing squarely on him without caring that he was on Kana's lap. She nuzzled into his chest, inhaling deeply.
Itsuki caught her so she wouldn't fall, while Kana winced under their combined weight. Annoyed, she tapped Karin on the head.
"You're a grown girl! Can't you have some manners?"
"I won't!" Karin retorted stubbornly, hugging Itsuki even tighter, her face buried in his chest.
Itsuki still smells so good!
With proper nutrition, Karin had grown quickly, her body changing almost every few days.
Holding her now, Itsuki could no longer think of her as just a little sister.
"Karin, get up. I'm not going anywhere," Itsuki coaxed gently. "Besides, you're hurting your mother like this."
Realizing it was indeed inappropriate, Karin reluctantly pulled back, though she stayed pressed close to him.
At that moment, Yakumo walked in, though she had actually heard the news at the same time as Karin—she was just slower.
Itsuki waved her over, asking about her recent situation.
Kana smiled and left to prepare dinner, giving the young ones space.
After listening, Itsuki frowned. "There's no need to be polite. If they push you, fight back. If you can't handle it, ask Karin for help—or ask your aunt to step in."
"That's right!" Karin grabbed Yakumo's hand, glaring.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier? They're just a bunch of bastards. If you'd said something, you wouldn't have had to suffer."
Unlike Karin or Honoka, Yakumo still had living family—the Kurama clan.
After Itsuki and Tsunade had helped treat her, the Kurama clan had started paying attention.
Later, Yakumo entered the Chunin Exams and easily defeated her opponents.
The clan was furious.
Over the years, the Kurama had declined. They desperately wanted a strong representative to revive the clan's glory.
But Yakumo was under Tsunade's protection, so they didn't dare force her openly.
Instead, they tried to contact her in secret, hoping to bind her with family obligations.
But where were they when her health was failing?
Now that she had recovered, they wanted to claim her again?
Yakumo had no interest.
She just wanted to follow Itsuki, train in peace, and one day journey among the stars. She had no time for their petty schemes.
Still, the Kurama clan refused to give up.
Using both threats and persuasion, they harassed her constantly, leaving Yakumo annoyed and distressed.
Itsuki had only noticed her troubled expression and asked about it—otherwise, Yakumo wouldn't have spoken at all.
