As Rachel walked over to the nurses' station, her heels clicking on the floor. Louis followed closely behind her, his expression still guarded.
As they approached the counter, Rachel smiled sweetly at the nurse. "Excuse me, can I get an update on my sin, ....i....I mean, my son' Ethan Chen's condition?"
The nurse nodded sympathetically. "I'll go check with the doctor, Mrs. Chen."
As the nurse walked away, Louis leaned in close to Rachel.
"Damn that foolish boy! I hope he dies here," Louis muttered under his breath.
Rachel's face turned pale, and she spun around to face him, her eyes blazing with anger. "Louis, shut up! You're forgetting we're supposed to be playing the part of concerned parents! My father's down the hall, he doesn't know what's going on yet..."
Louis's expression turned guarded, and he nodded slightly, his eyes scanning the area. "Sorry," he muttered, his voice barely audible.
Rachel's eyes flashed with warning, and she turned back to the nurses' station, awaiting the nurse to return with any news.
Just then, Alvin, Decker, Agent Williams, and Wayne walked over to the nurses' station as well. Following behind them was Governor Wong.
Rachel's eyes flicked to the group, her expression somber, and she nodded almost imperceptibly to her father. Louis's eyes followed hers, and he nodded as well, his expression concerned.
"Detectives, you're still here," Rachel said, her voice laced with mock appreciation. "We're so grateful you're keeping an eye on things." Her eyes flicked tothe nurse who was walking over back to the station with Doctor, her expression professional. Rachel's eyes locked onto the doctor, her face a mask of concern. "Doctor., how's Ethan doing?"
"Good night, Mr and Mrs Chen. My name is Dr Amaya Jones."
"Good night, Dr. Jones," Rachel said, her voice soft and concerned, her eyes locked onto the doctor's face, searching for any sign of news. Louis nodded, his expression tense, his eyes also fixed on the doctor. "How's Ethan doing?"
"Your son is stable for now... he is in critical condition," Dr. Jones said, putting her hair behind her ear.
"What happened to him?" Rachel asked, her arms wrapping around herself, tears welling up in her eyes, her face a mask of fake concern.
"From the injuries on his body... he was beaten with a whip," Dr. Jones said, fixing her glasses upon her face.
"Dr. Jones, I'm surprised to see you here," Decker said, walking over to her.
Dr. Jones blushed. "I...I could say the same to you, detective. I guess you're here to talk to Mr. Chen, however he's resting right now and won't be able to answer any of your questions."
"Dr. Jones, can we go and see him now?" Governor Wong asked.
"Yes, of course. Nurse Hall, take Governor Wong and Mr. Chen's parents to see him."
Nurse Hall nodded and led Governor Wong, Rachel, and Louis towards Ethan's room. Decker fell into step beside Dr. Jones. "Dr. Jones, can I have a word with you?" he asked quietly.
Dr. Jones nodded, slowing her pace. "Of course, Detective. What's on your mind?"
Decker's expression turned serious. "We need to know more, about Ethan's condition. Was there anything...unusual about his injuries?"
"Well, from what I saw, the wounds suggest he was beaten with a whip or something of that caliber," Dr. Jones said with a sigh.
Alvin cleared his throat. "There isn't much we can do here, we'll need to wait till he awakens to find out what happened to him."
"I agree with Alvin, if there's nothing else, we should return to the police station," Agent Williams said with a frown on her face.
"If it's okay with you guys, can I ride with you back to the station as well? I'm covering a shift at the hospital part-time and mine just ended, I just need to sign out and grab my bag," Dr. Jones said with a smile. Alvin had a sinister smile on his face.
"Sure thing, Dr. Jones. You can ride with Decker. I'll be riding back with Agent Wayne and Agent Williams," Alvin said with a smirk, shooting a smug grin at Decker.
Dr. Jones raised an eyebrow at Alvin's smirk but didn't comment on it. Instead, she nodded and headed with Decker towards his vehicle, grabbing her bag from the hospital's staff room on the way out.
As they walked, Alvin shouted across the parking lot, "Hey Decker, don't forget you owe Dr. Jones dinner!" He shouted with a wide grin on his face, waving his hand at Decker.
Dr. Jones's face turned bright red when she heard what Alvin said.
"Oh, shut up, Alvin. You are being an annoying pest," Decker responded as he helped Dr. Jones into the car.
Dr. Jones slid into the passenger seat, her face still flushed. Decker got in beside her and started the engine.
"Sorry about that," he said, glancing at her. "Alvin's a bit...much."
"It's fine. I've dealt with worse, working with Alvin; just the other day he tried to offer me something from his flask. He called it a 'hot box'."
Decker chuckled and pulled out of the parking lot. "Whatever you do, don't drink that. Alvin's going through a phase; were thinks he's a mixologist," Decker said rolling his eyes.
"So, dinner. Do I owe you one?" he asked, a hint of teasing in his voice.
Dr. Jones raised an eyebrow. "You don't have to. It was just Alvin being Alvin."
Decker shrugged. "I'll take you out anyway. Least I can do for almost smoking in your office."
"Well, if you insist... it's a date then," Dr. Jones said, turning away and blushing.
Meanwhile: Back at the police station, one hour earlier...
In the interrogation room, Boss Josh was sweating bullets due to Shadow Snake's cold tone of voice.
"Answer my question Truthfully. Were you, the one who killed David Wright?" Shadow Snake asked, his voice cold and menacing.
"I....I don't know what you are talking about," Boss Josh said, slightly panicking.
"Don't play stupid. The evidence is stacked against you. You were caught on the CCTV footage driving around in David Wright's car. The gun that matches the one used to shoot him was found in your possession, so do not play this foolish game with me," Shadow Snake said as he stood up and walked over to Boss Josh."Do you know how the police were even able to find you, and you're a little group? You can thank your little friend Mike for that," Shadow Snake said with a sneer.
"Impossible. Mike would never sell me out, I am one of his best customers. He is a ride-or-die," Boss Josh said, regaining some confidence in his voice.
"Well, you have to die right? Your friend Mike is dead. He was found dead this morning, him and his entire crew. And here's another piece of information... someone made an anonymous phone call to the police, and that person was me."
"Impossible! You're... you're lying, I don't believe you do you really, think I am a fool," Boss Josh said his heart beating fast.
Shadow Snake laughed.
"Sadly for you, i don't give a fu*k, what you think," he said, Then he stomped his foot on the ground.
Instantly, four shadows appeared and entered the other interrogation rooms.
and grabbed Boss Josh's group. Then They returned to the Shadows . Shadow Snake then grabbed boss Josh by the throat.
"You're coming with me," he said as he walked into the shadows, whistling
"The Ants Go Marching One by one hurah hurah, it sounded like a haunted melody, and it shook the police station.
They were on full lockdown because they didn't see what Shadow Snake did - they assumed Boss Josh and his group escaped and that their lawyer had some to do with it.
