Chapter 57: This child was a boy?!

Huo Yuhao's words barely left his lips when the reactions of those present weren't concern for their fallen comrade, but shock at a single fact: this child was just a boy?!

{T/N: I thought they were gay. Plot twist. F..k you, author.}

The first to regain composure from the initial astonishment was Jiang. His head snapped toward the shadowy man, his expression visibly twisting into a snarl.

"Old Three, you actually betrayed us!?"

Yet the shadowy man paid him no mind. Like a loyal guardian, he stood silently behind Huo Yuhao, head bowed. From the moment he had signed the Master-Servant Contract, even his soul no longer belonged to him.

Seeing this, a flash of realization crossed Jiang's eyes, and he shifted his focus to Huo Yuhao. Just as Huo Yuhao braced himself, thinking the other would attack, Jiang's expression abruptly smoothed over, as if nothing had happened.

"Young man, shall we end this matter here?"

Huo Yuhao raised an eyebrow but remained silent.

"Old Three turning out like this… it has to be because of you. But I suppose it was only his greed that led him to his own demise," Jiang continued.

"On the contrary, none of us provoked you. You have already killed the one who attacked you earlier."

With just a few words, he had neatly divided the grievances between them. Jiang then spoke again, offering his proposal.

"So, I think it's best if we end this matter here. No one else will get hurt. What do you say?"

"Indeed… to become a leader, one must rely on more than mere strength."

Huo Yuhao smiled lightly. He even turned toward the door, as if agreeing to the proposal.

Yet, at the very instant Huo Yuhao turned, a sharp glint appeared in Jiang's eyes. Two yellow and three purple spirit rings appeared at his feet. His skin paled even further, and his once-murky amber eyes now burned with crimson.

In the next instant, his figure blurred like a residual shadow, lunging straight at Huo Yuhao.

He would never forgive the one who had killed his men. The words he had just spoken were nothing but a trick, a test to gauge his opponent.

Seeing Huo Yuhao so easily accept his proposal—and judging from that deceptively youthful face—Jiang knew his previous posturing had been empty bravado.

Huo Yuhao, sensing the shift, began to turn. That momentary hesitation was all Jiang needed. A cruel grin spread across his face… only to see two purple spirit rings rising from Huo Yuhao's feet.

Impossible!

The first and second spirit rings are purple?!

Suppressing the unease gnawing at his heart, Jiang tried to reassure himself. Even with purple spirit rings, the boy was only a Spirit Grandmaster. Jiang, a Spirit King, would still easily crush a Spirit Grandmaster… right?

"I thought you might wait just a moment longer," Huo Yuhao's calm voice cut through.

The first spirit ring flashed brilliantly. Jiang's vision blurred, halting his advance in shock.

First spirit Skill: Spiritual Detection.

So powerful… what kind of spirit skill was this?

As he braced himself, Huo Yuhao's body suddenly radiated a dark blue light, his presence surging dramatically in an instant.

The full effect of the Sin of Pride manifested without reservation.

Then, Jiang met Huo Yuhao's piercing eyes. With the first spirit ring glowing once more, he caught a fleeting flash of gold within the boy's pupils.

Why could he use the First Spirit Skill twice in succession?

The thought barely formed before a crushing pain struck Jiang like a battering ram, his head snapping back violently.

Spiritual Shock.

It felt as if a dagger had pierced his skull, twisting and shredding his mind. Agonizing pain tore through him, and he screamed, blood gushing uncontrollably from his mouth and nose.

Yet even this alone wasn't enough to completely neutralize the battle-hardened Jiang. The fact that a single purple spirit ring could unleash two effects forced him to halt his advance, retreating with a roar.

"Damn it! Am I supposed to die here!?"

Having barely clashed once, he no longer wished to fight—only to escape the chaos.

But now, the four spirit grandmasters present were powerless: the burly man had been slain, the young man who had spoken for Huo Yuhao clearly wouldn't intervene, and the last spirit elder had already been entangled by the shadowy man before Jiang could act.

Even the remaining spirit grandmasters, seeing their leader sprayed with blood from just a glance, dared not advance.

Anger and blood surged in Jiang's chest. "You idiots! Do you think he'll spare you if I die!?"

Only then did the others snap back to reality. As they prepared to act, a barely visible thread shot from Huo Yuhao's hand, instantly winding around Jiang's arm.

A tingling sensation, similar to mosquito bites, was followed by a wave of dizziness, clouding the battle-hardened Jiang's vision and slowing his retreat.

The next moment, a tremendous force surged along the thread, yanking him directly toward Huo Yuhao.

Life Thread.

Another spirit skill granted by the second spirit ring of the Skydream Ice Silkworm.

Made of pure spiritual energy, the thread was incredibly resilient. Anyone it touched suffered a disorienting effect similar to Spiritual Shock, though it caused no physical damage. Its strength lay in its ability to simultaneously control multiple opponents.

"Do you really think I'm afraid of you!?"

Trapped and cornered, Jiang's eyes went mad. His fourth and fifth spirit rings flashed in succession, his body becoming a streak of crimson light. Leveraging the thread's pull, he accelerated toward Huo Yuhao.

Meanwhile, the other Spirit Grandmasters closed in. Just as they prepared to strike, Huo Yuhao's torso emitted a vivid cyan glow, launching another Life Thread—this time targeting the young man who had spoken for him earlier.

The thread latched on. Huo Yuhao tugged sharply, hurling the youth into another room containing five civilians.

With the thread detached from the youth, Huo Yuhao used it to seal the door. Bang! It shut tight.

In an instant, an icy terror radiated from Huo Yuhao, engulfing the entire room. Bang! The spirit tool Lamp on the ceiling shattered.

Frost rapidly spread across the floor, walls, and windows.

Spirit Bone Skill: Eternal Frozen Domain.

Enhanced by the Sin of Pride, the two-ring Spirit Grandmasters were frozen into statues, utterly incapable of resistance.

Only Jiang and the remaining Spirit Elder retained mobility.

Finally reaching Huo Yuhao, the red glow around Jiang dissipated. Though his body was coated in frost, a single domain skill had done him little real harm.

In his right hand, he formed a blood-red sphere emitting a foul stench. His expression twisted into unparalleled ferocity as he brought it down toward Huo Yuhao.

And in that moment, he realized with horror: Huo Yuhao's spirit rings had changed.
