(VALENTINO'S POV)
Steam curls up around me as I run a towel through my hair, watching the water drip down my chest and over the faint scars that never really faded. For a moment, I'm at peace. The kind that's rare in my life. The kind that comes right before something goes wrong.
My phone buzzes on the bedside table. I glance over, already smirking when I see the name flash across the screen

"Hey, Beautiful," I answer, my voice low, still rough from the shower. "What happened? Miss me already?"
There's no laugh. No teasing reply. Just the sound of her voice, tight, and breathless. "Val… something just happened."
My smirk fades instantly, my brows knitting together. "What's wrong?"
"After you dropped me off, I went upstairs to my apartment, I opened the door and… and your brother was sitting right there."
I freeze. "What?!" My voice hardens, all humor gone. "Kay, did he touch you? Did he hurt you? I swear if that bastard laid a hand on you, I'll—"
