Cherreads

Chapter 70 - Unnatural Awkwardness

"So, there was a listening device in the cabin? It's a pretty simple explanation, believe it or not."

"And that explanation is?"

The doc had met the fury of Mistress as he was entering his office dressed the same as yesterday because he owned thirty sets of identical clothing. He was half asleep and hadn't made his morning coffee or taken any of his antidepressants or mood stabilizers.

"I do it with all my tenants so that way I know that they're not part of any organized crime."

He sounds weird, like he's reading off something. Maybe there's some screens inside his mask. The half-alien girl's train of thought was cut off by the doctor getting down on one knee and placing a hand on her shoulder.

"You're lying."

"Fine, I'm the ringleader of a secret society that controls the world from the shadows whilst also being a moving cog in the battle between good and evil."

A part of her abilities subconsciously rewired the brain of the doctor to change into someone that would tell the truth to her.

"Do you know someone named Dials?"

"No."

"Did you send the two men that came here with us to do some dirty work for you?"

"Yes."

His voice was so mellowed out that even a normal person with no prior knowledge of this situation would know that he was in a trance.

"Should we go in loud or should we go in quiet?"

Scott had finally convinced a still mad Sears to get buffalo wings and neither of them regretted doing so.

"I always love to go in loud, but we should probably stay quiet with this."

"Why?"

"What do you mean, 'why?' Weren't you in the CIA? If anyone can do stealth, it's you!"

"Excuse me gentlemen, here's your third tray of wings."

The casualness of eating such an abundance of food had almost disgusted Sears as he remembered what it was like to spend days at a time in those tunnels.

"Thanks. Here's a tip."

The semi–depressed employees of Buffalo were uncanny to the likes of Sears who'd spent his entire life loving his work, war. When Sears put deeper thought into the matter, he could've believed himself a sadist, but he repressed the thought in an instant.

"Hey, would you look at that!"

"What?"

The soldier's eyes widened as he saw that was. His hands shaken and he couldn't help but keep his eyes open to stare at this thing that brought such terror and anxiety. His toes curled and he had a small twitch in his eye.

"Chained at the edge of the universe. Is this hell?"

"Somewhere near it."

"Alone? Nah, nobody is alone in the world above the great clouds."

The monster from the dark place appeared before the duo. His skin was made of b

"Why are you here?"

"This is your parole. Currently, the two of you are being held as a single individual for the time being and I'll be overseeing your time here for the next one thousand years."

BB let out a large sigh and placed his hands on his face before leaning his head back. He wanted to scream in rage but that would probably make the DA laugh at his rage.

"You have got to be kidding, right?"

The DA got into a fetal position before he realized something. The monster didn't even notice what was going on.

"Not at all."

"One last question, what happens if we suffer a fatal injury in this world?"

"You can't get hurt in this world. For the most part."

"What does that mean?"

The dimples appeared on

"You said it yourself, no more questions."

The DA was getting mad. He'd gone some time without having constant joy from his actions.

"But I have another question."

"Don't care. Now come on, we need to get to business. Plus, the two of you need to talk to a higher up."

When they looked at the gold and marble walls, they noticed that there were some embedded things. Scenes of violence and sacrifice throughout history. When they looked down at the floor it was a view of the universe below with stars and planets and supernovas.

"Come on, this isn't even the craziest thing I've seen this month."

When he was working in the ODETTA, he beheld it as a strange experience in the whirlpool of a bizarre universe. On the tip of his mind's tongue, he could feel a familiar presence amongst the world of people. That was the young man he treated.

"So, can you explain why you were in my house?"

"A time traveling palace kidnapped me. It made me do things."

"Like what?"

The DA's eyebrow raised at the proclamation and his unstoppable curiosity had kicked in. He had some belief in the supernatural but for the fact that he was going to be a man in a place like this he needed to keep up appearances and keep them up for a long time. Eons maybe.

"I don't want to talk about it."

The voice of BB trembled as his knees became weak. The monster they were following was far ahead of them, but the creature saw upon them being so distant behind.

"Come along."

The three walked forward with the use of some sort of salvation at the end of this tunnel. There had to be something.

"I don't like you and you don't like me. But I trust that thing a lot less than I trust you and that's saying a lot."

For a moment, the DA, in the sight of the one and only BB seemed almost human but neither of them deserved such a high standing title like human.

"Here we are. Now make sure not to start too much of a ruckus because we need this to go well, understand?"

"What do you mean we?"

The monster turned around and with the human eyes that sat back in its marble skull it stared at the DA with utter hatred.

"I'm having the case of two very high rolling clientele which is you. If I stumble over such a case, that's not exactly good with the higher ups."

When the likes of BB and the DA looked down at the worlds below, they noticed something off. There were several ghosts roaming the cosmos.

"Correct me if I'm wrong but those don't seem like normal astral bodies."

"Well, nothing looks normal lately."

The marble monster looked down at the spirits before looking up at the likes of the two men.

"They couldn't keep up."

Like a pair of prey running from a predator, they traversed the land. In BB's mind, he could feel that there was some kind of glass that he was walking on. When he glared at the DA, he discovered that he was already looking at him with a look of pure hatred. No, not hatred. Though, there was some feel of wrath that the DA would've liked to inflict on him.

"Hey, does anyone know where my salsa went?"

"Why do you have salsa?"

"Always keep a few jars on me."
