Chapter 6 - The Plan

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell.

We were at Adewale's house again.

I asked what was going on.

That was when Adewale told us the story above.

I was surprised but I wanted to know what happened next.

Adewale told us to take our seats.

"Would any one of you like some water?"

"Get straight to the point, Methuselah!"

I usually called him Methuselah because he was the oldest among us

"I was terrified in the extreme. I picked up the torch and grabbed a cutlass I usually keep under my bed but they weren't moved, they were just staring at the drawer where the head was and then they spoke in a language I don't comprehend."

Adewale cleared his throat.

"I wanted to advance towards them and possibly scare them with the cutlass but then, I blinked and they just disappeared."

Our eyes widened.

"Like that, I even checked around apartment but they were nowhere to be found."

We all showed signs of shock.

There was silence for a couple of minutes.

We were all absorbed in our thoughts until Jumai broke the silence.

"Do you know what this means?"

Everyone raised their eyebrows.

"It means they want the head or else why were they at the house, then come for it again at Adewale's" Sally said.

"Exactly!" Jumai sounded impressed.

"But how did they find out that it was at Adewale's apartment?" I inquired.

"That's easy." Jumai said. "They saw him stealing it and somehow tracked him here."

"Then who are they and why do they want Azim's head?" Tochukwu asked.

"That's what we don't know." Adewale said.

I felt a chill running down my spine. This was quite scary.

Suddenly, it occurred to me.

"They might also be responsible for his missing body."

It dawned on everyone and we started understanding...or did we?

Those men were after my friend, Azim and killed him in his bedroom by cutting off his head.

That was why the gate was wide ajar.

Then, we appeared, causing them to scramble and grab Azim's body and leave the head behind.

But we wasted a lot of time and they were impatient and reappeared watching us.

At least, this is how Sally and Jumai summarized it all.

But I wasn't convinced.

The whole story seemed too perfect and convenient but in spite of that, there were some unanswered questions.

"So who are they and why are they after Azim then?"

"That's what we don't know." Jumai looked at me, sensing my disbelief.

I sighed.

"But there could be another explanation."

We all looked at Sally.

"They could be serial killers. We all have heard of serial killers."

She rose from her seat.

"They could have killed Azim for two reasons. One, because they are psychopaths and love killing for no reason. Two, Azim's house is the biggest house and they wanted to rob but Azim was in their way so they unalived him."

I raised an eyebrow.

"But personally, I would go with the first one.. It really rings true to the whole serial killer stuff so I would actually agree with it."

Everyone else looked impressed by Sally's simplified summarization of the entire case.

But I still had questions.

"Then why did they suddenly disappear for no reason at all and how did they even do that?"

"It's quite simple. They could be master serial killers so disappearing and reappearing comes as natural to them as easy."

Jumai and Adewale agreed.

"Plus, they might return back here when Adewale is not around to steal the head..."

"...which is why it's not safe here." Adewale cut in.

We all stared at him like he was an alien who dropped in from outer space.

"If Sally's theory is true, it means I am in danger and they could come for the head at anytime."

Jumai looked hurt.

"So I have to hand over the head to one of you so that when they come back for the head, it will be safe..."

"What about you?" Jumai asked softly. "Will you be safe?"

"Don't worry about me, I have a plan."

"What plan?"

"I have a friend at GMX who owes me a favour."

In case you don't know, GMX were a group who created and sold modern and state-of-the-art modern warfare weapons.

I had only seen YouTube short videos on the weapons and even then, they were extremely impressive.

A gun that shoots out knife shaped bullets and they had even created liquid fire!

Those guys were something else.

Only if someone could put that much effort into improving this terrible economy.

"So you're gonna collect weapons?" Tochukwu asked.

"I think borrow is a more suitable word."

"Isn't it expensive? I thought it costs like six hundred million thousand to borrow from them." Tochukwu said.

"That's why I said he owes me a favour."

We all looked impressed.

W plan.

"So that brings me to the question of who I want to pick to carry the head instead of me."

He scanned our faces.

"I pick you, Kazim."
