Chapter 40 He's a Pirate

"Matthias, the movie has finally wrapped!" Laura Schmidt said happily, her eyes bright with excitement.

"Wrapped?" Matthias Engel asked, looking up from his monitor.

"Oops, I misspoke. My part is wrapped, but the movie as a whole isn't far from finishing. Let me tell you, the scenes we shot this time are incredibly grand; you can't imagine. We even used a lot of Hollywood technology. Do you know about green screen filming? It's where after filming, a special effects team can transform it into a realistic scene."

Matthias scratched his head. "I understand that."

How could he not understand? Matthias had seen all the original footage, and the green screens were exactly what he had been working with. His special effects production through the Game Producer System was based entirely on those green screens.

"There are also several Hollywood actors. Although they haven't been very popular these past few years, I'm so happy to work with them! I hope our movie sells well!" Laura made a praying gesture.

"Do your best and leave the rest to fate. You just put in the effort, and the rest is up to heaven."

"Mm, I think so too. By the way, where's my sister?" Having not seen Maria Schmidt for a long time, Laura missed her older sister a bit.

"Maria is busy too. Recently, New Moon Media collaborated with Unreal Entertainment and organized many offline events. Your sister is busy arranging those activities."

"Oh, I see. I was going to ask her to dinner, but never mind then. You can have dinner with me instead."

"Me? I'm busy."

"You!" Upon hearing Matthias refuse her, Laura immediately became unhappy. Back in university, she had turned down countless boys who invited her, and now she was being rejected after inviting someone herself. "You stay at home all day; what are you busy with?"

"Oh, I haven't been staying at home lately. I've been busy going to the factory!"

"Going to the factory to screw in bolts?"

"I... Fine, believe what you want."

"You'd rather go screw in bolts than have dinner with me, hmph. I'll go eat by myself. Where are the car keys? I'll drive your car!"

"Here, these are the car keys. Do you even have a driver's license?"

"Of course I do. I learned in college, but I haven't driven since."

"Uh... Let's just forget it. I'll take you."

Although she had a driver's license, there was no guarantee she could drive safely through the German streets and back. If anything happened, Maria would surely come looking for trouble with him.

"What do you want to eat?"

"Hotpot."

"Can we eat something else? Maybe something more local?"

"Grilled fish."

So the two went to eat grilled fish, and then at Laura's strong insistence, they watched a movie called 'A Tale of Mari and Three Puppies,' which made her cry buckets. On the way back home, Laura said, "Matthias, why don't we get a dog for our apartment too?"

"No."

"What do you mean 'no'? Are we getting one or not?"

"If you want a dog, why do you need my permission?"

"We're all in one big apartment, so of course I should ask for your opinion."

"I think, maybe we shouldn't get one."

"Why?"

"Feeding, shedding, pooping, vet visits... I'm very busy."

Laura was momentarily speechless. Matthias's biggest worry was that she would get a dog and then expect him to look after it, and he simply didn't have the time for that now.

"No matter what, I want to get one."

"Alright, that's fine with me, but do you need to ask Maria's opinion?"

Laura called Maria and told her sister about the decision.

"What are you thinking, Laura? I had a dog before, and my clothes were always covered in hair. No—can you imagine me having to clean up dog hair every day before going to the office? And coming home to a sofa full of holes?"

After hearing her sister, Laura temporarily gave up the idea. "When I have money, I'll buy a big house and live alone, and I'll get two dogs!"

"Okay, you can buy a villa then and let them run free."

"You're just gloating," Laura said, pouting. But she turned to look out the window, and the city's skyscrapers, with their dazzling lights, instantly calmed her down. "Matthias, I heard you were also a company CEO before."

"Mm."

"What was life like as a CEO?"

"I don't know about others; I only know that I was very busy at the time. Maybe the direction wasn't right, and even being busy was pointless."

"So, do you miss that life now? Compared to, for example, your current down-and-out appearance?"

Matthias almost slammed on the brakes. "What do you mean my current down-and-out appearance?"

"Aren't you down-and-out now? Single, driving an old Volkswagen, screwing in bolts at a factory."

"Let me tell you, I really enjoy my current life, and I'm not down-and-out."

"I almost believed you."

"Believe it or not! Hey! Don't hit me! I'm driving! If we end up in a ditch, you're responsible!"

Back home, Matthias continued to sit in front of his computer. There was still a section of video special effects that needed to be processed. Once this was done, it would be pretty much complete.

Kevin sent a message: "Unbelievable, this is exactly the special effect I wanted! The special effects team you found is truly excellent!"

"Are there any other issues that need to be addressed now?" Matthias replied.

"We still need to perfect some things, like dubbing and editing. Also, we need to produce a promotional video."

"I don't think you need my help with that, do you?"

"No, I don't. I'll edit it from the original footage. There's also a more important issue: I've never been satisfied with the soundtrack. I found a composer to write a piece, but it doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for."

Speaking of Pirates of the Caribbean, the most important thing is its soundtrack—the soul-stirring march. Every time Matthias heard that BGM, it was as if he was transported to the dreamlike ocean.

"I happen to have an unreleased soundtrack here called 'He's a Pirate.' I'll send it to you now for a listen."

"Okay."

After sending the soundtrack, Matthias lit a cigarette and silently waited for feedback. He finished the cigarette, but Kevin still hadn't responded. After waiting a bit longer, Kevin called directly.

"This is it! This is the BGM I wanted! It's amazing! I'm going crazy, do you know that!"

"Haha, as long as you're satisfied."

"More than satisfied! This song is practically tailor-made for Pirates of the Caribbean! Wow, it's truly unbelievable! I believe the audience will be deeply moved by this music!"

Kevin's tone was full of excitement. It was understandable; hearing such a powerful song from another world in this world was like discovering a new continent.

Hanging up the phone, Matthias stretched. The filming of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie was also coming to an end. Just then, Laura pushed open the door and came in.

"Why is your room so dark? Not turning on the light isn't good for your eyes."

Matthias was speechless. "You and Maria are truly sisters. If the door isn't locked, you never knock. What are you looking for me for?"

"Um, I feel a bit bored alone. Do you have any fun games to recommend? We can play together."

"Let me think. I recommend you play Pirates of the Caribbean."
