Naturally, Yusei promised and agreed. It wasn't like he had nothing better to do than pick fights… what a waste of time!
He felt his time was very precious, so how could he waste for something so useless?
"Alright, I promise I won't pick fights randomly. If I do fight, it will definitely be to protect you. How about that?"
Yusei looked at Utaha's stunning face and spoke with a hint of teasing.
Utaha rolled her eyes at him but didn't say anything, handing over one of the two lunch boxes she had brought.
"My Mom asked me to give this to you. After finding out from me that we eat bread for lunch every day, she specially got up early to prepare it."
As she said this, she couldn't help but turn her head away and mutter softly.
"She wasn't this diligent when I was the one eating bread before."
Yusei was naturally very happy. He hadn't expected such a pleasant surprise, 'The future mother-in-law was preparing a lunch box for me… didn't that mean she already acknowledged me as her future son-in-law?'
Seeing the smile on his face, how could Utaha not know what he was thinking?
She couldn't help but glance at him and say, "You're not thinking about something unrealistic, are you? If marriage happens, it'll be with me, not my mom."
"Uh... I know that. Wait, no... I didn't say anything."
"Heh, how does that old saying go? Villain's heart is known to all."
Yusei was speechless, "Why did I become a villain?"
"Well, aren't you?"
The two chatted casually, but one thing was correct.
That was, Yusei made no secret of his feelings for Utaha, and Utaha understood perfectly well.
However, since Yusei hadn't explicitly confessed, Utaha couldn't give a clear response either.
The reason he didn't confess was that Yusei was afraid of being rejected and losing even the current ambiguous relationship.
Besides, why should he be the one to confess? Shouldn't the other party confess first in a relationship?
After finishing the lunch box, Utaha packed it up to take home and wash.
Since it was the lunch break, there was still plenty of time to chat a bit more.
After finishing their discussion about the novel, somehow, Utaha suddenly asked Yusei about the Kendo Tournament.
"The Kendo Tournament starts the day after tomorrow, right?" Utaha looked at Yusei.
Yusei nodded, "It starts the day after tomorrow. It lasts five days in total, so the schedule is quite tight."
"Is it the group stage first, then quarter-finals, semi-finals, finals kind of format?" Utaha asked curiously.
"Yeah, I'm not too clear on the specifics myself. I'll know once the Kendo Club's arrangements are finalized. But the first three days are basically optional qualifiers, and the official part starts on the fourth day."
Yusei thought for a moment, then suddenly looked at the girl beside him.
"The fifth day of the tournament coincides with our weekend break. How about you come watch me compete, Senpai? Watch me win the championship."
"That depends. I might suddenly have something to do that day."
"Oh, alright then." Yusei was somewhat disappointed, but he wasn't too down.
If there was time, he actually wanted his family to come watch the moment he won the championship.
The National High School's Kendo Tournament… its prestige wasn't low. In Japan, where Kendo is prosperous, it's common for some old families to have their children practice Kendo.
They practice from childhood, so their skill level is actually quite high.
Sitting nearby, Utaha saw the hint of disappointment on Yusei's face from the corner of her eye and couldn't help but chuckle.
"Why do I feel like if I don't go, you'll lose the match?"
Yusei glanced at her, saw the slight smugness in her expression, and waved his hand, "You're overthinking it. Even if some ungrateful senpai doesn't watch her savior's match, that savior will have his cute little sister cheering him on. It won't affect him at all."
Hearing this, Utaha's eyebrows shot up, then smoothed out as she deliberately adopted a nonchalant tone.
"Ara, is that so? Then it seems I happen to have time for a date this weekend."
"Da... date?" Yusei looked at the girl beside him in shock.
"If I have time, of course I'll go on a date. Isn't that part of a modern high school student's daily life?" Utaha looked at Yusei mockingly.
Yusei's face fell, "I'd like to see who it is. I'll skip the finals if I have to and have a good chat with that guy."
Seeing his expression, Utaha couldn't help but smile.
"It's my editor. I'm planning to submit my manuscript soon and scheduled a meeting for the weekend. I need to chat with her regarding my novel."
"Uh... I see. Never mind then, Utaha-chan. Have a good chat. Don't worry, your novel is our brainchild… it's bound to succeed." Yusei laughed awkwardly a couple of times.
Utaha was in a pleased mood, especially since she had lost the last time and now regained the upper hand. Even her movements as she packed her things became lighter.
'But... 'our brainchild'… why did that sound a bit strange?'
