Awakening ceremony. Everyone in this world, at the age of 16 participates in the awakening ceremony. They are organized by families, schools and institutions and government. Anyone can participate in awakening ceremonies and the only requirement is the age.
The awakening ceremony grants acess to system and only by connecting to system can one equip skills. Usually the awakened would have one innate skill and 9 skill slots. In some cases there would be Half-awakened, they are people who could successfully connect with system and equip skills but do not have an innate skill. But the Half-awakened have 10 skill slots. Even though they have a slow start compared to the awakened due to the absence of innate skill they have more freedom in choosing their path.
The ones who failed awakening cannot equip skills. Generally failed awakening does not signify the end of a path because even without skills people with decent combat abilities can rival the awakened. Though lack of skills does puts them at a disadvantage.
Skill cards can be obtained by destroying a monster's core. And once an awakened equips a skill it cannot be changed so they choose skill cards carefully because the skill slots for every awakened is limited.
In the vast Hall of the Akatsuki mansion Riko walks towards a high platform where a fist sized black ball quietly floats in the air. There weren't man people in the hall. The only ones present in the hall are Riko's parents, his father Homura Akatsuki and mother Hanabi Akatsuki, his sister Tatsumi and her maid, and Riko's aunt Karin and her daughter Hinata who is three years older than Riko.
Homura, Hinata, Tatsumi and her maid lily show no expression on their faces while Hanabi, Riko's mother shows obvious worry. She keeps telling herself in her mind 'It will be alright. As long as Riko awakens, even as half-awakened we can use money for his lack of combat ability. But if Riko does not awaken then, then this path will be too dangerous for him. I should I should... '
