As the team cruised high above the clouds in M'gann's sleek bioship, the atmosphere was relaxed, filled with idle chatter and lighthearted teasing. The hum of the engines acted as a gentle backdrop to their conversation.
Robin leaned forward from his seat, glancing curiously at M'gann in the pilot's chair.
"So, M'gann," he asked, an intrigued grin tugging at his lips, "how does your shape-shifting work exactly? I mean, could you, say, look like any of us?"
M'gann glanced back, smiling mischievously. "Of course," she said simply, her form rippling like liquid light before settling into the shape of a teenage female version of Robin — complete with mask and cape.
Wally whistled low. "Okay, that's… eerie."
Before anyone could comment, M'gann shimmered again, this time appearing as a female version of Kid Flash, red hair bouncing, green eyes gleaming with amusement.
Wally's jaw dropped. Then, with a half-smirk and a glance down at his transformed counterpart, he muttered, "Is it wrong that I think… I'm kind of hot?"
Robin groaned. "Yes, Wally. Very wrong."
The rest of the team erupted in laughter, even Kaldur allowed himself a soft chuckle.
When the laughter died down, Kaldur asked, "What about your clothing, M'gann? Is that… part of the transformation as well?"
M'gann blushed faintly, eyes darting away. "Well, shapeshifting is still new to me," she admitted. "And boys don't exactly make it easier. But, yes — my clothes are organic. They respond to mental commands, just like the bioship."
Connor frowned slightly. "As long as it's only the ship and… you," he mumbled under his breath. Causing the group to fall silent.
Leon snapped his head toward him, glaring. "Watch it, Connor. Next time you open your mouth like that, I'll make sure you regret it," he said sharply. Everyone froze. "M'gann's handicap is nothing to joke about. Imagine being forced not to speak with your mouth, to only use hand signs to communicate — could any of you manage that as gracefully as she does?"
The cabin went quiet. Connor lowered his gaze, shame flickering in his eyes. "You're right," he muttered. "I'm sorry, M'gann."
Raven, sitting across from Leon, reached out and rested a gentle hand on his shoulder, her violet eyes full of quiet pride and empathy. "That was well said," she murmured.
The mood shifted — calm, reflective — until Robin, ever the mood-lifter, clapped his hands once. "Alright, before things get too sentimental... M'gann, what about density shifting? Can you go intangible like your uncle?"
M'gann's shoulders slumped a little. "Not yet," she admitted quietly. "I'm still learning. Uncle J'onn makes it look easy."
Robin grinned. "Don't worry. Even Kid can't phase through walls without breaking something."
"Hey!" Wally protested as everyone laughed again. "That was *one time!*"
Still smiling, M'gann added, "Maybe I can't phase through walls yet... but I can do this." Her fingers glowed faintly on the controls.
Suddenly, the interior lighting shifted, and the outside world faded from view. The entire bioship vanished into complete transparency, cloaking them from sight.
"Whoa," Robin breathed. "Camouflage mode?"
M'gann nodded, looking pleased. "Exactly. Works on visual and radar spectrums."
Before anyone could comment further, the calm was broken by the crackle of comms and a booming synthetic voice.
"Team," intoned Red Tornado, "an emergency alert has been triggered at Happy Harbor Power Plant. I suggest you investigate covertly. Coordinates have been transmitted."
M'gann straightened in her seat. "Received, Red Tornado. Adjusting course."
Robin folded his arms, leaning back. "Tornado's keeping us busy again. Probably another wild goose chase to keep us away from the real action."
M'gann glanced at him with a soft smile. "Maybe. But remember — one 'simple fire' led you to Superboy. It's worth checking out."
Leon leaned back, arms crossed, his expression thoughtful. "Life's a rollercoaster, people. Best to enjoy the ride instead of asking why the drop feels too steep before the next climb."
Robin smirked. "You're getting philosophical on us, Leon."
He shrugged.
Robin chuckled, then tilted his head. "Still, I can't help wondering... what's actually causing the alarm?"
Connor's voice cut through the chatter. "I think I know the cause."
Everyone turned toward him. He was staring out the viewport, his jaw set.
Outside, clouds churned violently — a twisting column of wind ripping through the landscape. A tornado, small but fierce, and eerily similar to Red Tornado in form and energy signature.
Before anyone could react, the spinning vortex surged toward them, swallowing the bioship in a violent gust. The vessel shuddered, alarms blaring as they were yanked off course, spinning out of control through the storm.
"Hang on!" M'gann shouted.
The team braced themselves as the world outside blurred into chaos.
