"While you were stationed at the northern outpost, whispers about your alleged witchcraft had already begun circulating within our borders," Sister Vera began, her voice measured and deliberate.
I turned toward Hardy, searching his face for guidance. He offered only a subtle nod, silently urging me to hear what she had to say. My pulse quickened, but I remained silent.
Sister Vera drew a steady breath before continuing. "I'm convinced this campaign originated with Matron Kyra. The rumors didn't spread naturally—they were too coordinated, too precise. Someone planted these seeds deliberately."
Another glance at Hardy revealed nothing. His expression remained unreadable, though his slight head tilt encouraged me to keep listening. Was he deliberately letting me navigate this alone?
