Faye's POV
"What's the point of bringing me back to this place?" I questioned as we crossed the threshold into the cave's entrance. My fingers were intertwined with his. He guided our path while I matched his rhythm.
"So we can finally breathe," came his straightforward response. "We've been trapped behind those fortress walls for weeks now. Always fighting, always strategizing, always surrounded by watching eyes. I needed somewhere private."
Heat bloomed across my cheeks before I could prevent it. How absurd that simple words from him could affect me so powerfully. I was grateful his attention was focused ahead.
We ventured deeper inside. The sound of water reached my ears from up ahead. Our boots created the same echoing rhythm they had that first night we sought refuge here.
"How did you discover this cave?" I inquired.
