Faye's POV
The revelation struck me like lightning.
Hardy had found his mate. And against all odds, that mate was me.
The words reverberated through my mind even as the echo of his voice faded. I stared at him, certain I had misunderstood. My lungs forgot how to work properly, my heartbeat became a thunderous drum in my ears, and my lips parted without producing sound.
"You mean..." I whispered. "Me?"
His dark gaze held mine steadily. "Yes."
The quiet conviction in his tone made my knees weak. No uncertainty clouded his features. No question lingered in his voice. Just absolute knowledge.
"The only force that can tame what lives inside creatures like us," he continued, "is finding our destined mate."
He captured my trembling hand and pressed my palm against his. When he turned his hand upward, I gasped at what I saw. The deep gash he had inflicted on himself moments before was gone. The wound that had been streaming blood now showed nothing but perfect, unmarked skin.
