Even if Director Nick Fury had anticipated this outcome, he never would've imagined that Tony Stark — that arrogant playboy — would be so damn decisive.
"Are you sure you won't reconsider? As long as you join Homeland— oh, sorry, I mean S.H.I.E.L.D.— you'll have official certification."
"Think about it. You could legally and publicly act as a superhero. Wouldn't that make a great story? Your father would be proud — a son following in his father's footsteps."
Nick Fury kept trying to persuade Tony with his usual smooth talk.
But Tony? The words went in one ear and out the other — like a breeze.
He was the definition of stubborn and self-centered.
While he respected his father, Howard Stark, there was no way in hell he'd live in his shadow.
Fiddling with his Patek Philippe watch — or at least what he thought was one — Tony said without even looking up:
"Heh, Black Egg— oh wait, Director Fury— Tony Stark doesn't need certification from anyone or any organization. On the contrary, the world needs certification from me."
He shrugged, that smug smirk on his face as punchable as ever.
Fury's expression darkened. Being called "Black Egg" again made veins pop on his forehead.
Tony Stark's personality was infuriating — cocky, venomous, and impossible to deal with.
Coulson quickly turned away, shoulders shaking. The man was clearly holding back laughter — barely.
Fury forced himself to stay composed. As a superior, he prided himself on control.
"Tony, we have a common enemy now — Leo. You do know that, right?"
Tony's expression instantly shifted. He saw Leo as both a friend and a rival.
Noticing the change, Fury's one good eye lit up — there was hope.
He leaned forward, lowering his voice.
"Tony, you still don't know the full story. Leo isn't from Earth. He's an alien from the M788 Nebula — his real name is Ultraman Tiga."
"Alien??"
Tony was completely stunned.
"That's right," Fury said gravely. "And his knowledge about alien empires and races in the universe is... disturbingly accurate."
Tony froze. Wait a minute — you've met aliens too?
F**k me. I, Tony Stark — the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist — haven't even seen an alien, and you guys already have?
Does that make me the country bumpkin here? Hell no.
Now Tony was hooked. Things weren't as simple as he thought.
He grabbed Fury by the arm and dragged him toward the garden outside.
The house wasn't safe — he knew the Red Queen system could hear everything.
Though confused, Fury followed him.
In the open garden, Tony finally relaxed.
"Alright, spill it. What aliens have you met? Their tech must be insane, right? They can travel through space?"
Four or five rapid-fire questions later, Fury was already sweating.
We were supposed to be discussing the Avengers, not chatting about E.T., damn it.
But Fury adapted quickly. He decided to play along.
"This goes back over ten years," he began mysteriously.
"I was just an ordinary agent back then. I encountered the Kree and the Skrulls — both interstellar empires. They have energy weapons, ships that cross galaxies, and they harness the power of stars themselves."
He told the story smoothly — though, notably, he skipped any mention of Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers.
Tony listened, wide-eyed. So there really were aliens, and they'd already visited Earth?
As a tech mogul, his curiosity was fully piqued. Alien technology? He'd kill to study that firsthand.
It also made him realize why Leo had the Red Queen, an advanced AI lifeform.
But the more Fury spoke, the more Tony's suspicion faded.
If Leo's really that powerful... would he care about a tiny planet like Earth?
Don't be stupid. Earth's resources probably aren't even enough to cover his army's fuel for a round trip.
He probably came here out of boredom — just sightseeing through the universe.
That would also explain why Leo had no identity records on Earth. What alien would?
After hearing everything, Tony waved dismissively.
"Sorry, Director Fury. Can't help you. He's an alien — my tech's nowhere near that level."
"As for Earth being destroyed... that's not really a concern for a businessman like me. Go find Brother Black Horse — didn't he just win a peace prize? Sounds like his department."
"And hey, you're from the same hometown, right? Perfect!"
Tony's refusal was blunt — and laced with mockery.
Fury was momentarily speechless. Just a second ago, Tony looked captivated.
Then, out of nowhere, he flipped the script.
"Tony?? You—"
"Me? I'm just curious. Fighting and killing? Not my thing."
"If you've got any hot girls to introduce, though, I'm all ears. Otherwise, don't bother."
Tony's smirk returned — infuriating as ever.
"Alright, Tony. That's your choice," Fury said through gritted teeth.
"Good. Then goodbye — and don't let the door hit you on the way out."
Tony waved him off, done with the conversation.
Talking to these bureaucrats was exhausting — everything was about politics and self-interest.
And so, Fury's first attempt ended in total failure.
His plan had hit a wall. But as Director Nick Fury, giving up wasn't an option.
He'd regroup — and soon, everything would change.
Because while they thought the conversation was private, someone else had seen it all.
No. 18 watched from afar, two distinct energy signatures glowing in her vision.
She had witnessed everything — every word, every secret.
