(Indra P.O.V.)
I was getting ready for today's mission. After all, today was our first C-rank assignment.
That should be the last of it, I thought as I placed all the necessary items that might come in handy for this mission into a sealing scroll. After checking the seal once more to make sure everything was secure, I got dressed and headed downstairs toward the dining area, where my mother, Sakura, was cooking in the kitchen.
The smell of breakfast filled the house.
"Good morning, Mother."
"Oh, Indra dear, it seems you're up. Take a seat at the dining table. Breakfast is almost ready," my mother, Sakura, said with a warm smile.
I pulled out a chair and sat down quietly.
A few moments later, she arrived carrying the food and neatly set the dishes on the table. We began eating together in a comfortable silence.
Then she started a conversation.
"So, Indra, I heard you're going on a C-rank mission today."
"Yes, indeed, Mother," I replied calmly.
My mother's expression softened slightly, a nostalgic look crossing her face.
"I remember when our first C-rank mission became a complete fiasco. We encountered Zabuza Momochi and Haku of the Yuki Clan from Kirigakure. During that mission, I truly thought I was going to die. Thankfully, we managed to overcome it. I just hope you don't run into something like that. Although… you probably won't. Because of Naruto, the shinobi world is quite peaceful now."
Jeez, Mother, you didn't have to jinx it, I thought inwardly.
Still, I listened attentively as she briefly recounted parts of that mission.
After finishing my meal and helping clear the table, I said goodbye to my mother and headed toward Training Ground Nine, where my team was supposed to gather.
The morning air was cool as I arrived.
Himawari and Masao were already waiting.
"morning," I greeted calmly.
"Oh, Indra-kun, good morning," Himawari said in her usual cheerful tone, giving a small wave.
"Oh, hey, Indra. Looks like you're on time too," Masao added with a grin.
I glanced around with a deadpan expression. "I see Kakashi-sensei hasn't arrived yet."
Both of them scratched their heads and let out sheepish laughs.
Indeed.
As if on cue, Kakashi appeared in a body flicker beside us and greeted us calmly.
"Yo, good morning. You all seem quite energetic. I won't waste time, so I'll cut to the chase. Let's go meet our employer."
After saying that, Kakashi motioned for us to follow. We quickly fell in line behind him as he led us toward the client.
Waiting there were two merchants dressed in rather fancy clothing.
I honestly didn't feel like describing them in detail.
"These two gentlemen will be our employers for the upcoming mission. Please treat them politely. They are Mr. Desna and Mr. Kalzna," Kakashi said calmly.
Both merchants wore elaborate outfits that gave off a noble-like vibe.
"Hello there," the two merchants greeted in unison while rubbing their beards.
Two rather plump merchants, if I had to summarize them.
After the introductions were complete and a few formalities were exchanged, we began our journey toward the capital of the Land of Fire.
We were traveling inside a caravan, the steady creaking of the wheels accompanying the quiet road.
Along the way, I got to know the merchants a little better. Apparently, the two of them were twin brothers, and they had a good relationship with the Fire Daimyō.
The only reason they hadn't thrown a tantrum about being escorted by a group of genin was probably because of Kakashi. After all, who didn't know the famous Sixth Hokage?
Honestly, the level of glazing Kakashi received was on the same level as Gojo Satoru… or perhaps it was the other way around. After all, Kakashi came first.
…Just a thought, I mused inwardly.
"Hey, Indra-kun, what's on your mind? You seem to be in deep thought," Himawari said, leaning slightly closer.
Opening my eyes, I met Himawari's bright blue gaze. She was looking at me with clear concern.
"Oh, it's nothing, Hima. I was just thinking about learning fuinjutsu after this mission is over," I said casually.
Although I really did plan to learn it. It was extremely useful.
Himawari sighed. "Really? You think about jutsu all day long, seriously, Indra-kun. You should try enjoying life sometimes."
Seeing her exasperated expression, I couldn't help but find her extremely cute.
Without thinking much, I flicked her forehead.
"Ouch! Why do you always target my forehead, Indra-kun? You meanie!" she complained, clutching her forehead and glaring at me while trying to act fierce.
It only amused me more. I couldn't help but smile at her reaction.
Which, of course, made her glare sharpen further.
To onlookers like Kakashi, Masao, and the two plump merchants, it probably looked like a sweet couple bickering. The three of them wore identical deadpan expressions, as if they had just been force-fed something overly sugary.
The atmosphere inside the caravan was peaceful… almost heartwarming.
Then my expression turned serious.
The change was subtle, but immediate.
I sensed multiple presences approaching fast.
Beside me, Kakashi-sensei had clearly noticed it too — his visible eye narrowing slightly.
Moments later, fifteen shinobi dressed in black surrounded the caravan, appearing almost simultaneously from the treeline.
Kakashi sighed lightly. "Just when I thought this would be easy…"
He was about to step forward when Masao suddenly raised a hand to stop him.
Kakashi looked at him questioningly.
"Kakashi-sensei, please let us handle this. This week you've seen that we're more than capable. Besides, this will be a good chance for us to experience real shinobi combat. So… please let us do it," Masao said firmly.
Kakashi's visible eye shifted toward me and Himawari.
We both nodded with equal determination.
"…Alright. But I'll be watching," Kakashi said seriously. "And remember—do not show mercy to the enemy."
All three of us nodded.
As I looked at the approaching enemies, a small smirk formed on my face.
Finally… I can stretch my muscles.
