I had to escape.
I wasn't going to let these monsters make me kill my people.
I may not be a human anymore.
But I still carry a human soul.
A human heart.
I kept my memories for a reason.
No matter how my body changes.
I'm still a human.
And until that spirit dies.
I will always be a human.
I snuck out through the window of my bedroom and climbed down the wall of the castle onto the dirt.
I ran as fast as I could away from my so-called home.
Every step was euphoric.
As if I were escaping hell itself.
I couldn't help but jump with glee when I finally got into the forest surrounding the castle.
I finally ran away from that Torture.
But there was still one thing left to do.
I had to go to Arrak.
I could tell she would be with me on this, I know for sure after reading her diary.
She hates my parents just as much as I do.
And for good reason.
She has a cottage somewhere out in the woods.
Nothing too fancy.
I was surprised when I heard my parents say that.
She was such a prestigious mage.
You would expect her to live in a lavish mansion.
But no.
She obviously has a sense of humility.
Unlike most of the cryptids and humans.
That was another reason I could trust her.
Eventually, I arrived at the modest home.
Thankfully, it had the lights on, and I could smell something cooking from within.
She wasn't only a master mage, not only a kind and compassionate person, but she was a chef too?
I'm lucky to have such a person in my life.
I knocked on the door and heard footsteps coming my way.
When the door opened, I saw her standing there in front of me.
Completely confused.
She had no idea why I was here.
And she looked at me like I should tell her.
So I kept it simple and clear.
"My parents wanted me to join the military. So I escaped"
Arrak looked like she accepted the answer at first.
Then she was a little more confused.
"but… I would think you wanted to protect us from the humans?"
"Well. If I were normal, I would. But the thing is…"
"What is it?"
"I'm a human"
