Serena
I sat up slowly and rubbed my face. My eyes felt swollen, but at least the heavy ache from last night had dulled a little. I got out of bed, took my clothes off, and went straight into the bathroom. The shower helped me feel better too. Last night was hell. At a point, it felt like I didn't want to wake up again but the fighter part of me protested. There was much to live for, whether I'd lost my marriage and the man I loved.
When I was done, I dressed simply and went downstairs to the small breakfast area. The hotel staff greeted me politely. I picked something light and sat by the window. I didn't have much of an appetite, but I knew I needed to eat.
My phone vibrated just as I took my first sip of tea.
Pedro:
Good morning, Serena. How are you feeling today?
I stared at the screen for a moment before replying.
Me:
I'm better than last night. Still tired though.
The phone rang almost immediately. I picked it.
"Good morning," I said softly.
