It was actually me.
I was there the whole time.
I followed Serena and Pedro from the hotel. I kept enough distance so she wouldn't notice. I told myself I just wanted to make sure she was safe. That was the lie I fed myself. The truth was uglier. I needed to see her. I needed to know who she was with. I needed to know if she had already replaced me.
When Pedro dropped her off at the hotel, I stopped across the street. I watched her step out of the car. I watched her thank him. I watched her stand there for a moment before walking inside.
I opened my door.
I was ready to go to her. I wanted to call her name, grab her arm, tell her everything. Tell her why I did what I did. Tell her I never stopped loving her. Tell her that the man she was with was a very dangerous man and she shouldn't go close to him.
