Sandy, who had crashed headfirst into the wall, fell flat on the ground. He was speechless—great, now he was definitely going to be ridiculed again.
Just as he got up, he saw Colonel Smoker charging at him in a rage. But strangely, there was no killing intent. Sandy tilted his head in confusion.
"I say, Brother Smoker, what are you doing?"
Smoker swung his jitte horizontally. "Why the hell did you become a Pirate?!"
Sandy ducked and replied, "Why can't I become a Pirate?"
Smoker slashed vertically. "Isn't this era already messy enough because of Pirates, you bastard?!"
Sandy dodged sideways. "What's that got to do with me? I didn't mess up the world. Go ask those old men! Anyway, let's not talk about annoying things. How about we grab some food and a drink?"
Smoker slashed diagonally again, roaring in frustration. "Are you kidding me, you damn Pirate?!"
For a while, Smoker kept swinging his jitte, while Sandy—eyes closed—effortlessly dodged every strike.
"What are they doing? Fighting?"
"If they're fighting, why isn't that guy fighting back?"
"Colonel Smoker, stop playing around! With your strength, how can you not hit him?!"
Eventually, Smoker stopped, panting. Damn it! Why couldn't he land a single hit on this smug bastard? Did Sandy have Observation Haki?!
Before he could think more, Sandy opened one eye and grinned. "Why did you stop? I'm not done having fun! Come on, hit me again!"
Smoker almost spat out blood. This guy was seriously infuriating!
He pointed his jitte at Sandy and shouted, "If you've got guts, stand still and don't move!"
Sandy rolled his eyes. "It's a good thing I didn't become a Marine back then. If all Marines are this dumb, I'd be screwed…"
Smoker's vein popped. He charged again, and Sandy took off running, laughing.
Watching them chase each other around, the nearby Marines felt utterly exhausted just from watching.
When King Cobra arrived, carrying the unconscious Luffy, everyone began tending to their own business.
Smoker led his subordinates to escort Crocodile for transfer to Navy Headquarters, while King Cobra was busy managing the post-war chaos.
In a large palace room, the Straw Hat Crew were finally getting some rest. Nami and Sandy were the only ones completely fine.
Usopp and Zoro were moderately injured, while Luffy was in critical condition—poisoned by Crocodile's scorpion venom. Fortunately, Robin had an antidote ready, saving him just in time.
At that moment, Nami shot Sandy a look. Once they slipped away to a quiet place, she crossed her arms.
"You said you were going to deal with Crocodile. So what happened? Not only did we take him down, we also handled Baroque Works. What exactly did you do?"
Sandy groaned. "That's no reason to confiscate all the treasure, okay? Nami, there's so much of it—can I at least have two gems?"
Nami glared. "No way! You didn't even fight this time. Forget it."
Sandy regretted not hiding some treasure earlier. Now it was all gone—straight into Nami's greedy hands.
He cleared his throat and gently took her hand. "Nami, I know how much you love treasure. Since you want it all, I'll give it all to you."
A sparkle flashed in Nami's eyes, but she stayed on guard. She knew him too well—there was no way she was letting her guard down!
Looking at the ruins around them, Nami sighed. "I didn't think Crocodile could be that dangerous. Just one person working from the shadows nearly destroyed a whole kingdom."
Sandy nodded. "Yeah. But Vivi's father is already handling things. As for you…"
Nami looked toward the sky. "Seeing all the people who lost loved ones… it reminded me of Belle-Mere."
Sandy squeezed her hand, and the two sat down together. "You can't just call her by name. You should say Mother Belle-Mere. Show some respect!"
Nami rolled her eyes. "I like calling her that. What's it to you?"
Ignoring her, Sandy continued softly. "Some people are unforgettable—their voice, their smile, their kindness. Your mother was one of them.
She didn't just raise you—she taught you how to live, how to care for others, what to chase, and what to hold onto."
Nami blinked in surprise. "How do you know my mother so well?"
Sandy waved it off. "Don't worry about the details. She also taught you to share with others. Don't be so greedy, Nami.
Like that big bag of treasure you took—I mean, shouldn't you share at least a little with me? If your mom saw this, she'd be disappointed."
As Sandy spoke, Nami's expression darkened. The more she listened, the more she realized—this bastard had been scheming all along!
She had just thought he was being understanding… but it was all a trick to get treasure!
Nami's eye twitched.
"Sandy, are you even listening to yourself?"
"Duang!"
Her fist landed squarely on his head. She stood with her hands on her hips. "You greedy idiot! Forget about it—you're not getting even a single gem!"
Watching her walk away, Sandy sighed. Nami's obsession with money was truly incurable. Fine, whatever. He totally didn't care about that treasure anyway. Totally.
A little later, Vivi found Sandy sitting where Nami had just been.
"So you're here," she said with a gentle smile. "I've been looking for you."
Sandy turned his head. "Something you need?"
Vivi sat down beside him. "Not really. I just saw everyone resting and noticed you were missing."
As she turned her gaze toward him, something shifted in the air—a faint, wordless tension between them.
Their eyes met for a long moment before Sandy finally looked away toward the sky. "Vivi, you're the future of this country. I'm just a wanderer who drifts across the world. You understand, right?"
Vivi nodded softly. "I know. But after you travel around the world… will you come back?"
Sandy smiled faintly. "Who knows? Maybe one day, I won't even be here anymore. Life's unpredictable."
There was a long silence before Vivi spoke again. "Sandy, thank you for what you told me before. You made me realize some very important things."
Sandy turned to reply, "You're welc—"
"Hm?"
