Chapter 99 - Chapter 98: Drifting

After a long while, Vivi looked at Sandy, blushing. "Sandy, quickly take your hand away—this is outdoors!"

Sandy awkwardly withdrew his hand and smacked the hand he had just used with his other hand. Why can't he break this old habit?

"Cough, cough." Sandy said, "Vivi, your figure is the most beautiful in all of Alabasta!"

Why did he keep saying such embarrassing things?

To be honest, Vivi couldn't completely control herself just now. Whether it was because of Sandy's kindness to Alabasta or the days they'd spent together, Vivi had truly begun to care for him.

Vivi whispered, "Sandy… let's go back."

Sandy raised an eyebrow. "Okay—how about we rest together while we're at it?"

Vivi looked up shyly. "Sandy, I know you love to travel the seas, but remember—there is someone here in Alabasta who thinks of you, who's waiting for you. We made a promise."

Sandy nodded. "Since you don't regret it, what else can I say? Time flies—let's get down to business!"

"B-business?"

"Space Field…"

With a few shifts, Sandy and Vivi arrived in a private room.

Vivi frowned for a moment, then her expression softened.

The events in Alabasta had felt like a nightmare. Thinking back still pained her, but thankfully that nightmare was over. Only now could she truly appreciate how precious life was.

Vivi began to hum a lingering song:

"I drift and drift, you sway and sway—rootless wild grass.

When I enter dreams, the sky changes, it's so ethereal.

Ah… love for one more second—then one more second; brevity is troubling.

If you don't care, just burn brightly once…"

When Sandy woke up it was past nine in the morning. He looked down at Vivi in his arms. "When did you wake up? Why are you staring at me like that?"

Vivi smiled sweetly. "I just wanted to look at you a little longer."

Sandy playfully tapped Vivi's nose. "Get up—if they can't find you, Alabasta might fall into chaos again!"

Vivi remembered and hurried up—but then she wrapped the blanket around herself again, bashful.

Sandy laughed. "It's just the two of us here, what are you shy about?"

Vivi's face flushed. It was natural—she wasn't used to this yet.

After dressing, Vivi asked, "Sandy, you and Nami…"

Sandy smiled. "Just as you thought—but I'll keep yesterday's promise."

Vivi returned the smile. "Alright. I must go to my father. See you later."

"Mua…"

Sandy went to Luffy's room. Luffy was still sleeping; a doctor sat at his side examining him.

"Has his fever gone down?" Sandy asked softly.

The doctor checked a thermometer and replied, "Fortunately, the toxins have been cleared. His temperature is back to normal."

Sandy nodded. "Thank you. If there are medical fees, see Nami—I don't have any money on me."

The doctor was taken aback. "No—no, you saved—"

"Stop." Sandy interrupted. "Don't give me that. It's their credit. By the way—where are my companions?"

The doctor said, "They all went off to handle things this morning. Do you want me to take you to find them?"

Sandy shook his head. "No need. Just leave him to me. Thank you for your trouble."

"Heh—you're polite."

"Meat, meat… I want to eat lots of meat…" Luffy murmured in his sleep.

Sandy smirked. He hadn't forgotten. He reached into his Space Field backpack and produced a fragrant chicken leg, placing it near Luffy's nose.

Luffy, half-asleep, instinctively bit—and Sandy yelped as his hand got chomped. Sandy snatched the leg back, laughing. A little fishing game ensued.

After a few tries, Luffy began to twitch in his sleep, as if having a nightmare: a pile of delicious food always just out of reach. His face showed clear frustration even while unconscious.

"Duang…"

Nami returned and immediately smacked Sandy. "Stop doing dumb stuff—the doctor said his wounds aren't healed yet!"

Before she finished, Sandy cried out in surprise. "Luffy, you scoundrel—my hand…"

In a moment of inattention, Luffy had actually bitten Sandy's hand along with the chicken leg.

Sandy, after freeing his hand, hurried to Chopper. "Chopper, do you have a rabies vaccine?"

Chopper blinked. "Yes… was someone bitten by a dog?"

Sandy pointed at the sleeping Luffy. "I was bitten by Luffy."

"Duang…"

Sandy scowled at Nami. "Why do you hit me at every turn?"

Nami shrugged and smacked his head again. "Duang…"

Sandy turned to her with a sulky face and muttered, "Try hitting me again…"

"Duang."

Nami said, exasperated, "Honestly—how long will he be unconscious?"

Just then, Zoro walked in. "Yo, Sandy—morning."

Chopper exclaimed, "Zoro, why did you take off your bandages?!"

Zoro poured a glass of water. "They were a pain. Hey Sandy, I need to talk to you for a moment."

Sandy glared at Nami. "What is it? Just say it."

Seeing the atmosphere tense, Zoro backpedaled. "Let's talk later."

Sanji, who had returned, immediately growled. "Sandy, how dare you glare at Miss Nami—one wrong move and I'll kick you to death!"

Sandy ignored him and said, "A gem!"

Nami snapped, "You haven't given up yet? Forget it—you won't get a single gem!"

Sandy stuck out his tongue. "Tch."

He turned back to Zoro. "So? What did you need to say?"

Sanji kept glaring. Sandy shot back, "You pervert need to take your medicine!"

"What did you say?!"

Nami slapped her forehead. "Why are they fighting again?!"

"Ah!" Zoro cried, startled. "Why would you kick me? See if I don't slice you two scoundrels!"

And with that, the three burst into another brawl.

Chopper looked genuinely concerned. "Nami, what should we do? They're fighting again!"

Nami's eyebrow twitched. "Duang… Duang… Duang…"

She clapped her hands. "Finally—peace."

Chopper admired, "Sugoi!"
