Chapter 42 - The Sad, Sordid History Of 'The Children Of The Night' (I)

"So, what are we looking at...?"

Swinging back and forth across the chair, Stelle gazed curiously at the hardworking duo of [PapaSmurf] and [Overseer13]. Standing before them was Himiko, gaze distant as she was seen sniffing a vial of blood they had luckily gained before it disappeared. Using her Quirk 'Transform', they were able to pinpoint the approximate time the 'Bigfoot' was attacked.

"Yeah, but why do we need to find its age?"

Gaze stern, Shinji stared back at the bumbling furball, hand still in a trash can (wait, where did she pick it up from!?). "The younger they are, the better it is for us...?"

"But still: why...?"

Shinji looked up at the ceiling, before letting out a deep sigh. Guilliman recognised it as a sign, a sign where brother Shinji usually let out stories...

Stories so old, they were relegated to myths

"This all began with the time when the First Man, Adam El Asem, brought down a star from the very heavens, a star that Je used to gift to his youngest son. Back then, the Monsters-That-Lived-Outside were blocked from entering Earth by the Zerchidon Wall, a wall that separated that universe from the intrusion of Outer Gods from Quantinuitorium– The Sea Of Possibilities. These Outer Gods, like many powerful beings, required faith to empower themselves, but more importantly, to retain anchors in the Material World, so that they could maintain a semblance of self.

Adam, taking a Star, essentially broke the delicate balance, causing some of them to pour their powers into it, manifesting it as the First Sin, the sin of greed. Now wrought into the Iron Crown, he grew from a once benevolent ruler to a cruel tyrant, wanting to rule over the entire earth. This obviously led to several skirmishes with the supernatural beings that lived alongside the primordial humans at that time, but that is another long story altogether. Though many races hated what He had become, there was one in particular that hated Him to the core...

The Fae Folk of the West

Hatred so strong, they wished for His downfall, to the point that they asked for help from Iýa, the Sleeper in the Stars. At that time, she was beautiful, beautiful to the point of toppling nations. And kind, kinder than anyone else. So kind that she answered the Fair Folk's request for help in toppling the 'cruel' regime of Adam...

And she did so by creating the Children of the Night, for her other epithet was 'The Goddess of Wishes'

Oh sure, there was another reason why the Faeries asked for help in toppling Adam, but doing so will reveal their darkest secret, and I had sworn long ago not to reveal it lest they face total annihilation.

But what they did after set the whole thing in motion

Disgusted by furry creations, once their job was done, the Fair Folk of the West abandoned them, left them to their own devices, alone in the festering undergrowth of the forests they resided in. Discarded like unwanted trash, yet still holding hope, they sought their masters for some help, some guidance, yet were pelted with rocks and treated like unholy abominations. While the Fae Folk danced and sang underneath the bright stars, the Judges spent their time in the darkness, trying their best to create a semblance of society. But without any guidance, they had nowhere to go, nowhere to seek refuge from...

So they turned their attention to the Dark Ones
