Chapter 570: Parallax vs. The Justice League (Part 2)
The Justice League Enters the Fray
The moment the Conquest appeared, the battlefield paused.
Both sides instinctively stopped fighting and turned their heads toward the spacecraft.
The first to emerge was Clark Kent. His iconic battle uniform made the despairing Hal Jordan shout out excitedly.
"Superman! They are on our side!"
"Our help is here!"
Next to emerge were J'onn and Diana, wearing her Valkyrie Armor. Luke had custom-made the Valkyrie Armor for her. Given their close relationship, Luke naturally gave her the best. The Valkyrie Armor had no unnecessary high-tech features, focusing simply on maximizing defense and speed. Crucially, it included a Telepathy System and a Teleportation Function to dramatically enhance her combat speed.
It was an armor tailored specifically for Diana.
The fourth person to step out was Linda, wearing only a form-fitting battle suit with no armor.
Luke and Barry made their entrance as the finale. Their armors looked similar: a silver exterior with a blend of technological and magical elements. The difference was the lightning bolt symbol on Barry's chest and the two pairs of energy wings emanating from Luke's back.
This armor was Phantom-4: Divine Wing Armor (Space Custom Edition).
Compared to Phantom-3, its overall performance was slightly lower, but its endurance was significantly improved. Its standout feature was the talisman system. When crafting it, Luke had utilized the artifact refinement techniques from the Celestial Master Scroll. As for its effectiveness, he couldn't be certain without actual combat testing.
The six stood side-by-side in the void, an imposing presence that could not be ignored.
"It's them, the six superheroes from the Battle of Metropolis."
Hal explained in a low voice. "They are very strong. They should be able to help."
The Green Lanterns remained silent, skeptical of Hal's claim.
There were forty-seven Sinestro Corps soldiers here, besides Sinestro himself. Sinestro hadn't engaged in the fight, merely using it to train his subordinates.
Luke's Sacrifice
Luke took a few steps forward, gazing at the figure standing atop Parallax's head.
Sinestro also felt something and stared intently back.
Luke opened his right hand. Green flames erupted from his palm. A constantly struggling mass of yellow thread materialized within the burning fire. Parallax let out an enraged roar. It thrashed its long tail, lunging forward with world-destroying might.
Killing intent rushed at the group, accompanied by a soul-penetrating Fear.
In that moment, the team finally witnessed the terrifying power of Parallax.
Luke retracted the fire. His four wings spread, and he streaked away like a beam of aurora. Parallax shrieked, chasing relentlessly. The two figures, one following the other, left the main battle and sped toward the distance.
Linda, suppressing the impulse to follow and help, transmitted a message.
"Luke can't hold out for long. We have to be fast."
"No more holding back, Kal."
Clark, who had been addressed by his Kryptonian name, nodded gravely.
"Don't worry, Kara. Luke won't get hurt. I promise you."
The battle plan was set: If it were only Sinestro, they would all attack. If the Sinestro Corps were present, Luke would display the Fear Essence to draw Parallax away from the fight, leaving the rest of the team to deal with the minor threats as quickly as possible.
The first step was successful, but the outcome was uncertain.
Parallax's sheer size defied imagination. No one knew how long Luke could last. If an event like the one with H'El happened again, they wouldn't have the face to look at Linda.
Clark put aside his usual restraint and took the lead. His body streaked through the cosmos, instantly appearing before a Yellow Lantern warrior. Without hesitation, he punched through the protective barrier, his fist continuing its trajectory like a cannonball, exploding through the warrior's chest.
A rain of blood spilled into space.
The Green Lanterns who witnessed this stared wide-eyed. That was a warrior equipped with a Yellow Lantern Ring, on the same power level as them, yet he was killed with a single punch.
Diana was even more brutal. Her body flashed red, appearing suddenly behind a Yellow Lantern warrior. The Sword of Hephaestus sliced through the void, and the figure was instantly cut in half.
In her Valkyrie Armor, she was a merciless harvesting machine. The red blur flashed rapidly, leaving behind a trail of bisected corpses wherever it passed.
Linda and the Martian Manhunter were equally dominant. The four heroes truly tore through the enemy force like tigers among sheep. Forty-seven Yellow Lantern warriors were cut down by half in the blink of an eye.
Tazzel, the long-furred Green Lantern, inhaled sharply and couldn't help but say,
"Hal, it must be difficult for you to be a Green Lantern on Earth."
The oldest Green Lantern exclaimed, "Earth's civilization is less than ten thousand years old, yet it has produced such terrifying beings! No wonder the Guardians ordered us not to go to Earth before we left."
His words were full of relief. They had assumed Earth was a backward, native civilization. The scene before them completely subverted that notion. The immensely powerful Yellow Lantern warriors were helpless against the four heroes, meaning that if the heroes chose to, none of the Green Lanterns present would be able to escape.
One warrior suggested, "Perhaps we can join them and finish off Sinestro here."
Everyone was startled, and they couldn't help but feel tempted.
Luke vs. Parallax
Meanwhile, Luke, flying at full speed, was finally cut off. Compared to the Parallax entity, which was dozens of kilometers in size, he was tiny, like an ant. The monster could blow him away with a mere breath.
"I think I've seen you before."
Sinestro looked down and pondered. "Ah, I remember. You are Luke Shaw, the one who stole the Green Lantern Ring and disabled Hal's three fingers."
"That's right."
Luke removed his face mask, revealing his natural face protected by an energy membrane.
"Hal's ring has been with me all along. If you want it, I can return it to you."
"I don't want the ring. I want something else. Hand over the core essence."
"That won't happen. I went through great lengths to subdue the Fear Essence. How could I give it to you?"
Parallax roared and bit down. Its mouth, ten kilometers high, was like an endless mountain range, blocking all escape routes. Luke snorted. His armor glowed, and he transformed into a stream of light, reappearing directly above the monster.
"Let's see just how strong you really are."
His four wings expanded outward to three meters long, covered in dense, crackling lightning arcs. These arcs were not mere electron beams but Heavenly Thunder created using the Divine Heaven Thunder Art.
Luke performed a magical gesture. The arcs quickly condensed into a several-dozen-meter-long lightning spear. He grabbed the spear and hurled it forward with force.
Whoosh!
The spear pierced the void, leaving behind a dense trail of lightning arcs.
A flicker of mockery crossed Parallax's eyes. Its body was taller than Mount Everest; the spear was like a single hair to it. Who would worry about a hair's attack?
The result was as expected: the lightning spear shattered one of the barbs on Parallax's back. That was all.
Luke shook his head, unsatisfied with the result, but he knew he was helpless. Parallax's body was simply too colossal. Its tail alone was dozens of kilometers long. It was fortunate they were in outer space; on Earth, a mere breath from it would create a hurricane, and a single shake of its body would be enough to destroy the world.
When a creature's size reaches a certain level, its durability increases dramatically. Causing a crippling injury to it in a single blow was nearly impossible.
