"This—wait! Isn't that Xu Dan?"
"Xu Dan? Which Xu Dan?"
"That Xu Dan!"
"Oh! Oh my God—it really is him!"
A burst of excited discussion erupted from a corner of the diner.
Even in this small town, there were people who recognized Xu Dan!
They were a group of young tourists who had come to New Mexico for sightseeing and never expected to run into the legendary Xu Dan here.
The looks on their faces were like schoolboys seeing their idol.
...
"Wow! Those people have been talking about you. Are you famous on Earth?" Thor said cheerfully, raising his glass and gesturing toward the crowd behind him.
Xu Dan smiled calmly. "I wouldn't dare claim that. I'm just a nobody."
"You? A nobody?" Thor shook his glass and laughed loudly. "I don't believe it—absolutely not! Look at the reactions around us. If you're a nobody, then later I'll pick up Mjolnir and swallow it whole!"
"Swallowing a hammer made of iron? That's a pretty impressive trick."
In fact, although Thor had lost his divine power, his insight had not disappeared. That was something he had cultivated himself.
Even though he looked foolish on the surface now—like a drunk—
That was only one side of him.
As long as one paid a bit of attention, it was easy to notice how the demeanor of the people around had changed ever since Xu Dan entered.
From that alone, it was clear—
This man who could recognize value at a glance was definitely not simple.
In a place like this, daring to openly acknowledge him as Thor was no ordinary thing.
Mysterious.
Thor grew increasingly curious about Xu Dan's true identity.
After three or five bottles, Thor was still like a bottomless wine barrel, yet Xu Dan had already obtained what he wanted.
As dusk fell, the sky gradually darkened.
The two of them walked out, while the others had already arranged lodging.
"So—do we walk over, or do we run?" Thor asked.
He glanced at the vehicles nearby, then at the helicopter parked in the distance. "Can't we make things a little more convenient?"
After getting to know each other, the two had planned to go find Mjolnir that very night.
Now that S.H.I.E.L.D. had sealed off the area, this was the perfect chance to do Thor a favor—and Xu Dan naturally intended to follow along.
As for whether Thor could actually lift Mjolnir, that wasn't even part of the consideration.
"Do you really think it's appropriate for us to swagger over like that?" Xu Dan asked.
Thor thought for a moment, then nodded. He pointed to a car off to the side. "You're right. Let's drive that little thing—it looks inconspicuous."
Xu Dan rolled his eyes. "That belongs to someone else… Well, borrowing it won't hurt."
As soon as he finished speaking, he jumped into the car with practiced ease, clearly not his first time doing something like this.

At S.H.I.E.L.D.'s temporary base, a group of researchers were still conducting all kinds of tests on Mjolnir.
One instrument after another was running nonstop, creating a scene of utter chaos.
They didn't even dare approach the hammer directly, instead wearing full radiation-protection suits.
This hammer of unknown origin was indeed emitting special radiation—after all, it was forged from the hardest metal in Asgard.
To them, this was an artifact of the Immortal Palace.
An object of the gods.
Agent Coulson, the officer in charge of the project, paced anxiously back and forth, trying to uncover the secret of the hammer—
Why couldn't something so small be lifted even by a crane?
There were simply too many unsolved mysteries in this world.
"Is there really no one who can analyze it?"
"Sir, we're conducting a magnetic-field analysis."
"You gave me the same answer ten minutes ago!"
"I'm sorry, sir!"
Coulson was known for his good temper. If that bald guy were here, he would've already cursed everyone out.
He spun in circles restlessly. His gaze never lifted upward—
And up there stood a short-haired man, carrying a mechanical bow, his eyes sharp and deep like an eagle's.
Agent Barton—code-named Hawkeye.
He was undoubtedly the most combat-capable individual stationed at this temporary base.
With S.H.I.E.L.D. guarding the area, no one should've dared to cause trouble in this wasteland…
"Whoosh—! Whoosh—! Whoosh—!"
Suddenly, the alarm blared!
Coulson nearly slapped himself. Speak of trouble, and it arrives.
Instantly, the entire base went on high alert, all forces prepared to eliminate the intruder.
The soldiers stationed here were all elite S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel—their combat ability was anything but weak.
In this barren land, at most some reckless lunatic would try to break in…
And then—
A long-haired man charged straight in!
That aura alone made it clear he was no ordinary civilian.
Thor rampaged forward like a berserker, avoiding no one.
If he didn't knock them down fast enough, then he would be the one knocked down!
It had to be said—Thor's physique, built from years of feasting and fighting in Asgard, was no joke.
Now its brute strength truly revealed itself.
Even guards larger than Thor couldn't withstand his charge—both men crashed into the mud together.
It was raining.
As though the heavens themselves pitied the fallen Thor.
The dignified God of Thunder reduced to grappling with mortals over scraps!
The heavy rain quickly soaked the ground, turning the sandy earth into a swamp-like quagmire.
Fighting in mud rapidly drained physical strength.
But Thor's willpower was clearly stronger—he managed to outlast his opponent and emerged victorious.
However, just as he approached Mjolnir with triumph—
Something humiliating happened.
He felt resistance.
No—It must be that he hadn't wielded it in too long and had grown rusty!
Try again!
Thor exerted more force and yanked hard—
And in that instant, his expression changed completely.
"What?!"
He stared at his hand in horror.
Even using both hands to lift Mjolnir, it didn't move an inch!
Veins bulged wildly across his arms as he roared with all his strength.
"AAAAHHH—!!"
In the pouring rain, Thor seemed to recall Odin's spell from that day.
Hidden in the shadows, Coulson shook his head in disappointment and gave the order to the hawk above—
Attack.
Why disappointment?
Because deep down, he too held a quiet hope—
He wanted to see someone lift that hammer.
As a lifelong fan of superheroes, he had admired Captain America and others since childhood…
