Kameda, standing off to the side, habitually concealed his presence while checking his equipment—shurikens and other tools.
"Go!"
No one knew who spoke, but the two men shot toward Xu Dan's villa like arrows released from a bow.
They were almost skimming the ground as they ran, their speed beyond even that of the super-soldier Captain America.
One of them was the greatest wandering swordsman of the island nation. The other was its greatest ninja.
The person they had come to kill tonight was Xu Dan.
However…
Just as they were about to reach their destination, a black shadow swept toward them like a ghost.
"Who's there?!"
No one answered.
But in the dark night, points of light slowly began to glow all around them.
Click!!!
Those faint lights, like wolves on a vast plain, filled the two men with a fear they had never felt before. They were killers—not gods.
One wolf alone was nothing. But this was a pack of wolves—an invincible group of predators.
The two men pressed their backs together, cautiously guarding every direction.
At that moment, a voice rang out.
"You see? The people of the island nation are rotten to the core. You should consider my proposal."
As the young voice spoke, a beam of light suddenly illuminated an area several miles wide.
When Ida and Kameda's eyes adjusted, despair filled them.
It was the same despair they had only felt in childhood, when surrounded by enemies.
A tall figure stepped out of the darkness.
Their target.
Xu Dan.
But now, these men who had always acted decisively hesitated. For the first time, they did not make a move immediately.
Xu Dan did not activate the divine power of the Martial God or Divine Fist. He looked like an ordinary person.
Yet in this ordinary state, he radiated overwhelming pressure.
Half a year had passed since Xu Dan decided to establish Antarctic Military Industries around the world.
No country could refuse Antarctic Military Industries. When the company proposed setting up operations, nations welcomed it eagerly, even offering benefits.
In just six months, through subtle influence, Antarctic Military Industries had pushed the world's major powers toward unity. Several great nations had officially formed the Earth Alliance. Smaller countries, with no alternative, attached themselves to it and joined as well.
The Earth Alliance was a true global community.
But within this alliance, there was no island nation.
Because it had been excluded.
After obtaining Chitauri technology and combining it with Xu Dan's exchanged super–black technologies, Antarctic Military Industries had become an unavoidable global giant.
There was even a saying: "Whoever controls Antarctic Military Industries controls the world."
Yet Antarctic Military Industries never intended to be controlled by any country. Instead, it controlled them.
As its branches were built worldwide, Xu Dan began mass-producing advanced weapons: firearms, exoskeleton gear, combat aircraft, anti-nuclear missiles—even mecha armies.
While global military strength increased, a new balance formed.
Once the world's powers—except the island nation—reached equilibrium, no one dared start wars. Any conflict could drag in third parties, fourth parties, even dozens of others.
If everyone was balanced, wasn't cooperation better than isolated alliances?
At first, Countries A and B allied. But when they saw Countries C, D, and E join forces, they wondered whether to expand cooperation further.
Within just half a year, the once-empty phrase "Earth Alliance" became reality. The world circulated resources and grew together.
But only the island nation was abandoned.
It had no Antarctic Military Industries presence, and no one wanted to align with it.
Even countries once weaker than it now looked down on it, backed by Antarctic Military Industries.
Whether from resentment or fear of Xu Dan's rise while they declined, the island nation sent assassins.
But they ignored one crucial fact.
The entire world—except the island nation—was protecting Xu Dan like a precious treasure.
As long as Xu Dan lived, construction projects in their countries would continue. They would gain stronger weapons, better equipment, and advanced civilian technologies.
For a backward island country to try assassinating a Xu Dan protected by global powers was pure fantasy.
In just six months, the island nation had fallen from developed status to the least developed.
It was like these two old-era killers now trapped in the center—not because they chose seclusion, but because the era forced them into it. And seclusion meant becoming frogs at the bottom of a well.
They didn't even know their plan had been exposed the moment they boarded the plane.
They might as well have walked through the streets with "Assassinate Xu Dan" written on their faces.
Had they known, they might have died of humiliation on the spot.
Xu Dan looked at the two middle-aged men.The swordsman carried strong presence; the other felt mysterious, like an elusive shadow.
"You were sent by the island nation to assassinate me?" he asked.
When he said the word assassinate, the surrounding air seemed to turn icy.
Though veterans of countless battles, the two men felt chills down their spines under those cold gazes.
"You! Do you dare fight me in a samurai duel?!" Ida suddenly shouted.
As a seasoned executioner, he understood their fate if surrounded.
Either break out, flee abroad badly injured, and die later—or be killed here.
Death either way. Better to gamble.
But Xu Dan never followed conventional logic.
"Fight you in what you call a samurai duel?"
"Yes!" Ida shouted, hope flaring.
If Xu Dan agreed, they might live.
Xu Dan's next words dropped him into an ice abyss.
"Do you deserve it?"
"… "
Ida could no longer speak.
He knew there was no reasoning with this man.
