"As I got into the driver's seat, I caught Rowan's eye. My brother looked concerned—the kind of concerned that meant he thought I might actually torture Cole to death.
"I'm not going to kill him," I said. "Probably. Unless he really annoys me. Which, to be fair, is likely."
"Just... try to keep him alive," Rowan said. "We might need him for information."
"Oh, don't worry. I have so many questions." I started the engine. "Like who helped him get those hospital blueprints. Who else is involved. What his endgame was. And most importantly..."
I smiled into the rearview mirror, knowing Cole could probably hear me through the thin metal.
"How much pain he can endure before he breaks completely."
From the trunk came a muffled sound that might have been a sob.
"That's the spirit," I said cheerfully, pulling out of the parking lot. "This is going to be a fun drive."
