Four Days After the Phone Call
I didn't leave.
Marissa had called every day since our video chat, each message more urgent than the last.
Marissa: Please tell me you've packed a bag.
Marissa: Sienna, I'm serious. You need to get out of there.
Marissa: I'm coming over this weekend whether you like it or not.
I'd responded to none of them.
Because leaving meant admitting defeat. Meant acknowledging that two years of my life had been wasted on a man who would never love me the way I needed.
And I wasn't ready for that truth yet.
So instead, I stayed. Cleaned the house. Made meals Cole wouldn't be home to eat. Waited for him to come back so we could... what? Fix things? Pretend that night hadn't happened?
But Cole didn't come back.
Four days. No calls. No texts. Just silence.
The first day, I'd been relieved. Grateful for the space. The absence of tension.
The second day, I'd started to worry. What if he was hurt? What if something had happened?
