Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Haunter

After parting ways with Ash, Alex Carter roamed Viridian Forest alone for a week. During this time, he discovered several Beedrill nests, employing clever tactics to lure them away and collect their honey.

Beyond Beedrill honey, Alex found other valuable resources. He gathered Spearow eggs from nests, Magikarp roe from the forest river, and tiny, unconscious Shroomish just beginning to grow. These discoveries boosted his points to over ten thousand.

Gastly's combat power soared to 260 points, with its evolution value reaching 95%. With such strength, Gastly became a Tyrant in Viridian Forest, easily handling three to five Beedrill at once. Despite its power, Gastly hadn't learned new skills.

At this moment, Alex, alongside Gastly, found a Pidgey in the forest. Using Hypnosis, they rendered it defenseless.

"Come out, Shiny Weedle."

Alex released the Shiny Weedle he had caught earlier. Through training, its Bloodthirsty Power allowed it to consume Pokémon and enhance its strength.

Upon release, Shiny Weedle crawled to Pidgey, activating Bloodthirsty Power. Its eyes turned crimson as it devoured Pidgey—a somewhat grim scene.

Yet, with each bite, Shiny Weedle grew stronger.

"Ding... Shiny Weedle activated Bloodthirsty Power, successfully devoured Pidgey, Combat Power +15."

"Evolution Value +10%."

...After its feast, Alex checked Shiny Weedle's stats with the system.

**Name:** Shiny Weedle

**Type:** Bug-type Pokémon, highly sensitive sense of smell, able to detect favorite and disliked leaves from afar. It has a Poison Sting on its head, presenting some danger.

**Learned Skills:** Poison Sting, String Shot, Growl

**Special Ability:** Bloodthirsty

**Evolution Value:** 80 (Next stage: Kakuna)

**Combat Power:** 150 points

...Satisfied with the progress, Alex knew that, despite being a typically weak Pokémon, Shiny Weedle's combat power was impressive for its type. Many wild Beedrill couldn't match it.

This highlighted the difference between wild Pokémon and those trained by humans. Exceptions existed, but they were rare.

With everything managed, Alex returned to the wooden house in Viridian Forest with Gastly and Shiny Weedle. The samurai youth had vacated it, allowing Alex to use it temporarily.

"Gastly, your devouring ability has improved. Tomorrow, we'll aim for evolution. But remember, don't evolve immediately. Suppress it for now. The stronger you are at this stage, the greater your boost post-evolution."

Alex advised the attentive Gastly, which nodded in agreement.

"You too, little one," Alex told Shiny Weedle on his shoulder. "You're close to evolving. If you can keep boosting your combat power, suppress it. Otherwise, consider evolving."

Shiny Weedle had bonded well with Alex, noticing its strength increase rapidly since capture—something it never imagined before.

"Rest up for tomorrow. We'll head to Viridian City soon. We've stayed in this forest long enough."

With that, Alex pulled a sleeping bag from his spatial backpack and settled in for the night... Over ten days had passed since Alex left Pallet Town.

His Pokémon were stronger, making it time to visit Viridian City. He planned to call his father, confirming his safety.

Viridian City housed a Gym under Team Rocket's control. In the original plot, Ash found it closed. Alex wanted to check if it was open and if anyone recognized him. He was curious about his standing with Team Rocket.

Recognition by Team Rocket could mean future assistance. With Team Rocket's strong influence in Kanto, Alex could find help if needed, easing potential challenges.

However, Alex doubted they'd recognize him or his father. He needed to confirm this firsthand for peace of mind... Upon waking, Alex, Gastly, and Shiny Weedle ventured into Viridian Forest, clearing Pokémon. Gastly's combat power neared 300 points, and its evolution value was maxed out.

"Can you suppress it?" Alex asked, noting Gastly's maxed evolution value.

Excited, Gastly led Alex to an old Spearow nest they'd visited before, home to over ten Spearow.

"Ding, five meters away, there is a Spearow.

**Type:** Flying-type Pokémon, easily angered. Invaders of their territory face attacks. Though they don't fly high or far, Spearow are swift. They emit sharp cries when sensing danger.

**Learned Skills:** Peck, Glare, Fury Attack

**Combat Power:** 40 points."

..."Ding, five meters away, there is a Spearow.

...**Learned Skills:** Peck, Glare, Fury Attack, Agility

**Combat Power:** 50 points."

...Approaching, the system informed Alex of each Spearow's strength.

In Alex's eyes, the Spearow posed little challenge. He was ready to have Gastly and Shiny Weedle wipe them out.

Gastly appeared among them, using Dark Pulse followed by Hypnosis. Many Spearow lost their fighting ability instantly.

Stronger Spearow fled quickly.

The defeated Spearow became Gastly's meal. Gastly, suppressing itself, aimed to devour more Pokémon to boost its combat power.

This would benefit its evolution.

Gastly devoured over ten Spearow, its appetite immense. However, with combat power at 300 points, growth slowed—each increase painstakingly slow.

Panting, Gastly's body began to glow.

Seeing this, Alex knew Gastly could no longer suppress its evolution. But before evolving, it devoured more than ten Spearow, stretching its capacity.

With evolution, Gastly could likely digest them.

"Ding, Gastly successfully evolved."

"Congratulations, Host, your first Pokémon has evolved. You've earned 3,000 points."

..."Evolution complete, and a 3,000-point reward—excellent."

In good spirits, Alex opened Gastly's information panel. Now, it was Haunter.

**Name:** Haunter

**Type:** Ghost/Poison-type Pokémon; prefers hiding in darkness, extending its gaseous hands to tap shoulders. Those touched tremble uncontrollably. Its gaseous tongue can reportedly steal souls.

**Learned Skills:** Lick, Nightmare, Mean Look, Intimidate, Poison Attack, Hypnosis, Dark Pulse, Confuse Ray, Double Team

**Special Ability:** Devour

**Evolution Value:** 0 (Next stage: Gengar)

**Combat Power:** 510 points

..."Wow, the combat power is impressive."

"Haunter learned two new skills, Confuse Ray and Double Team—both excellent."

Alex was thrilled.

Haunter, post-evolution, gained hands and an anthropomorphic appearance.

Its size and fierceness increased.

"Alright, let's head to Viridian City now. Let's go!"
