Her hair scatters on her face adding to her innocent look. There's still a faint tremble in her fingers, even though she's asleep. I adjust the blanket over her, tucking it gently under her chin. She doesn't move
"Rest," I whisper, even though I know she can't hear me.
I grab the bowl of hot water beside her and dip a cloth in it. It is not as hot as the first time, I wring it out slowly, squeezing it tightly as I turn back to her.
Her face is bruised, purple shadows blooming under her skin. Thin cuts trail across her jaw and neck, seeing them makes my blood boil badly.
"It's my fault! I am the cause of all the pain she is passing through. I hurt her with my selfishness." I punch myself in the gut.
I place the warm cloth on her cheek. She flinches hard in her sleep, her eyes squeezing shut, a faint whimper escaping her lips.
I stop quickly, seeing her in pain makes me feel like someone is beating my heart and it hurts a lot.
