Maya's POV
I pull Hope out of school within the hour. The principal protests, but I don't care. Someone is watching my daughter. Someone sent by the Governor.
"Mama, why can't I finish class?" Hope asks as I buckle her into the car.
"We're having a special home day, sweetie." My hands shake on the steering wheel.
At home, Ethan has already called security. Armed guards arrive to watch the house. Derek shows up with Siri. Catherine brings FBI contacts.
"We need to go public," Siri says immediately. "Tell everyone what the Governor is doing."
"He'll just deny it," Catherine argues. "He'll say Maya is lying to protect herself from legitimate fraud charges."
"There are no fraud charges!" I snap. "We haven't done anything wrong!"
"He doesn't need real charges. He just needs accusations." Catherine's face is grim. "He's the Governor. People believe him."
My phone rings. Sophie.
