The neutral ground was an open field about ten miles from the castle.
A place where anyone could watch from the surrounding hills. Where no side had advantage. Where the fight would be witnessed by hundreds, maybe thousands of people.
Daemon was already there when we arrived. Standing in the center of the field with casual confidence. Like this was just another day. Just another opponent to crush.
"Elara!" He called out as I dismounted. "So good of you to come! I was worried you'd change your mind!"
"I don't change my mind. Unlike some people."
"Ouch. Hitting me with clever insults. I'm devastated." He smiled that cruel smile I'd learned to hate. "Though I suppose I should thank you. You've made this so much easier. Coming to me instead of making me hunt you down. Very considerate."
"I'm not here for your convenience. I'm here to take back what you stole."
