â° Resets Monday!
~~~~ââ~~~~~~~~ââ~~~~
Pacific Ocean floor. Inside Breach.
Pioneer territoryâpurple sloped structure overlooking Breach.
"Impossible." Larger-crested Pioneer stared at irregularly pulsing passage. Tone: puzzled.
"Leatherback failed?"
Mind raced.
Thought Jaegers' attention would be Sydney-side. Even discovering Leatherback's tracksâshouldn't have time for support.
Even failing to eliminate Marshal Stacker and Raleigh togetherâshould've at least killed Raleigh.
"You miscalculated, Quek." Smaller-crested Pioneer mocked.
"No."
"Something unknown happened Earth-side." Quek realized: wrong.
"YokiâLeatherback's death footage compiled?" Asked.
Pioneer-created kaiju: all clones. Hive consciousness. Individual behaviors differed, but same biological brain commandedâbio-tech brain Pioneers manufactured.
Even Leatherback dying Earth-sideâthey could learn what it experienced.
However: no clearance for raw data yet. Could only wait for Archbishop-level Pioneer council to release information.
"Almost."
"They say Leatherback was attacked by red-silver giant. Footage fragmentedâlittle information available." Yoki shared intelligence with Quek.
"Giant?"
Quek's brain received intelligence. Images appearedâflashback fragments.
Seeing giant in imagesâ
Exclaimed shocked: "Ultraman!?"
"Why would Ultraman appear in Pacific Rim world!?"
Immediately recognized: giant who killed Leatherback was Ultraman.
Couldn't understand why Ultraman would appear here.
"Also... Ultraman can kill Category IV kaiju?"
Quek knew Pacific Rim intelligenceâwatched movies before becoming Traveler. All Travelers crossing into Pacific Rim world had mastered relevant intelligence.
But really didn't know much about Ultraman. Impression: just wrestling monsters, smashing buildings.
Of courseâfor outsiders unfamiliar with Ultraman, such impressions normal.
"I've seen Ultraman called Tiga. That one seemed impressiveâcould turn golden. But looks completely different."
"This guy looks plain. Probably not impressive." Yoki analyzed.
Yoki's impression: flashier = stronger. This one not only looked plainâlimbs appeared thin. Probably just grunt.
Quek pondered.
"We know too little enemy intelligence."
"Regardlessâfact is: killed Category IV kaiju."
"This guy's existence undoubtedly adds to Jaeger forces' overall strength."
"Next plan needs adjustments."
Just as spoke and thoughtâ
Footsteps sounded behind.
Looked back: group of Ambassador-level and Central Bishop-level Pioneers surrounding Archbishop-level Pioneer. Approaching.
Within Pioneer societyâstatus divided three levels (low to high): Ambassador-level, Central Bishop-level, Archbishop-level.
Quek and Yoki: Central Bishop-level and Ambassador-level respectively.
"You disappoint me."
Archbishop-level Pioneer arrived. Immediately issued rebuke to standing Quek and Yoki. Mixed syllablesâonly fellow Pioneers understood.
Hearing voiceâQuek and Yoki immediately felt genetic-level suppression.
Quek's earlier plan: no results. Drew Pioneer council's displeasure.
If Quek and Yoki still possessed souls once belonging to humansâthese were purebred aliens.
"Two hundred million years agoâwe designated Earth as target."
"HoweverâEarth's environment wasn't suitable then."
"Now long ages passed. Humanity transformed Earth into environment suitable for our habitation. Time we took over Earth." Archbishop-level Pioneer spoke unique language.
"For dealing with humanityâinferior carbon-based lifeformâwe have only one choice."
"Slaughter them completely. Along with Earth's other organisms."
Archbishop looked toward kaiju factory distanceânumerous kaiju not yet incubated. Tone: unquestionable arrogance.
As time passedâkaiju they manufactured would grow stronger. Humanity couldn't possibly block their advance.
"But what if they counterattack?"
"They'll carry weapon called nuclear bombs through Breach. Destroy this colony." Quek proposed. "We should prepare multiple contingencies."
Combat strength and scientific advancementâPioneers held advantage. But fear: humanity pulling unexpected moves.
Knowing humanity's upcoming plansâQuek understood must act cautiously. Especially now: unexpected developments occurred.
"You." Archbishop-level Pioneer came before Quek. Looked down. Eyes: disdain. "Merely weakling."
"Cowardly as humans."
Within Pioneer councilâmultiple factions existed. One now before Quek: absolute hardliners.
"Nowâdisappear from my sight."
"Otherwise, become nutrients for our weapons."
Archbishop triggering fear encoded in Quek's genes. Making difficult to even stand.
"Yes."
Quek felt furious inside. But innate genes prevented rebellion. Could only bow head. Acknowledge.
Taking Yokiâleft.
Preparing to find council members willing to support ideas.
This guy wanted court death. But he didn't.
...
...
Earth.
Office of Chief Director, United Nations Anti-Monster Wall (Wall of Life) Project.
Gray-templed, nearly sixty-year-old American Chief Director stood before wall covered with display screens.
"Certain about changing mind?" Someone in screen asked.
"Although Wall of Life faced public resistance after Sydney breachâstill held back kaiju nearly one hour."
"If you continue executing Wall of Life planâwe'll still provide funding."
To thisâold man shook head.
Then gestured: well-dressed, middle-aged brown-haired American man beside him step forward. Speak to screens: "Let him talk."
"Zachary Lyman?"
"Renowned doctorâbiology and mechanical engineering."
"Should be at MIT. Why at his side?"
Zachary Lyman raised head. Looked at American representative questioning him on screen. Showed polite smile.
"Mr. Taylorâfelt call of duty."
"Previously published paper on [Remote-Piloted Mass-Production Jaegers]. Wonder if you remember."
"I remember."
"Technology once opposed by Mr. Stacker Pentecost." Taylor looked at him.
"Correct."
"But believe you can understand technology's prospects."
"If these mass-production Jaegers successfully deployedâwe'll possess power to completely eliminate kaiju."
"At same timeâregain public trust."
Hearing thisâ
Taylor pondered moment.
"Sounds interesting." Another national representative spoke. "So Wall of Life director changed mindâwants realize your plan?"
"Correct." Wall of Life Chief Director nodded. "Wall of Life alone can no longer restore public trust."
"As for Stacker Pentecostâeverything happened already proven he's failure."
"Nowâmore willing place hope in [Remote-Piloted Mass-Production Jaegers]."
After finishedârepresentatives had to carefully examine this Zachary Lyman who proposed plan.
"Can truly realize technology?" American representative Taylor asked. "Want to see resultsâhow long?"
Hearing thisâZachary Lyman smiled.
"Now."
"Because I've already realized this technology."
