Chapter 60 - Your Kaiju Are Too Small:-Chapter 60: Giant in Satellite Orbit

"But... with just our four Jaegers, can we really handle fifty of theirs?" Tendo Choi considered the numerical gap, unable to suppress his worry.

If they actually fought, each Jaeger would face at least twelve enemies—essentially surrounded the entire time.

How could they win?

The enemy's unmanned Jaegers might be mass-produced models, but they weren't scrap metal either.

"No need to worry about that. Mr. Natsuki will fight alongside us again." Marshal Stacker said.

"Mr. Natsuki?"

"That's wonderful news." Tendo Choi thought of Natsuki's combat record and relaxed somewhat.

No matter how many unmanned Jaegers there were, they couldn't possibly match the giant.

"However, the unmanned Jaegers are being transported across a wide area. We'll have to handle part of it." Marshal Stacker said.

Earth was ultimately different from the Precursors' colony.

Facing invaders, they didn't need to hold back—just carpet-bomb with beams and be done with it.

But on Earth, if Natsuki went all-out, before one Spacium Beam even eliminated the enemy, all the surrounding humans would already be blown sky-high.

Same principle as not being able to detonate nukes freely in urban areas.

"Once the Jaegers are ready, we move. Head to the cities with unmanned Jaegers in advance. After Mr. Natsuki's negotiations conclude, immediately secure the unmanned Jaegers."

"Roger!" multiple voices

Afterward, Marshal Stacker slowly turned, once again looking toward the Pacific where waves were growing turbulent.

Wondering internally—

Mr. Natsuki... what exactly will you do?

Noon arrived.

The unmanned Jaegers that had landed earlier were already under military jurisdiction. The remaining unmanned Jaegers were still in transit.

Maryland. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.

Mission Operations Center. Several technicians in white lab coats sat in chairs, monitoring rows of precision instruments as they did every day.

"The Breach closed... plus unmanned Jaegers. Either one's huge news." Wilson clutched a donut, listlessly scrolling through his tablet, catching up on today's headlines.

Since the Kaiju disaster began, humanity had focused its energy on dealing with Kaiju. Departments like theirs had seen budgets slashed to the bare minimum. Work was leisurely these days.

"You know... the Precursors attacked us from the Pacific seabed."

"Think aliens might attack us from outer space?"

He turned to ask his colleague who was recording instrument data.

"Maybe."

"But I still believe friendly civilizations exist in the vast universe." Cooper, wearing round-frame glasses, replied casually.

For astronomical workers like them, they still held some romantic fantasies about the cosmos.

He believed that among other civilizations in the universe, besides invaders, there must be friendly civilizations willing to communicate with humanity.

"Well... I used to think that too."

"But after these ten-plus years plagued by Kaiju, I've changed my mind." Wilson chewed his donut, shrugging. "Friendly civilizations probably don't exist in the universe. Even if they do, we'll never meet them."

For Wilson, the Precursors and Kaiju had completely destroyed his cosmic romanticism.

"You never know, maybe today we'll—"

"Wait..."

Cooper looked at a satellite monitoring feed, suddenly sensing something wrong.

He quickly rolled his chair over and pulled up the detailed image.

"What... is this?"

He zoomed in. In Earth's satellite orbit, a massive humanoid figure hovered.

"What's wrong?" Wilson turned, seeing his expression turn panicked. He moved behind him, looking at the satellite feed together.

Seeing that blurry figure, he froze.

"Zoom in more!"

"This... how is this possible?"

The image enlarged again. This time, they saw clearly.

A giant roughly fifty meters tall. Body primarily red and silver. Slender limbs. Bright eyes. On his chest, a circular crystal radiating azure light.

He simply hovered in Earth's satellite orbit, motionless. Impossible to read any expression from that face.

"What... what the hell is this!?" Wilson pressed against the screen, staring gravely at the giant.

"Is it biological?"

"No... impossible. How could a biological organism survive in space's extreme environment?"

Earth's satellite orbit—the position where the giant was located—under direct sunlight reached 120°C. The pressure was absolute vacuum. Plus cosmic rays and solar radiation. In such harsh conditions, how could any organism survive?

"Could it be... an alien!?" Cooper's eyes widened in speculation.

The moment those three words left his mouth—

The other technicians in Mission Operations all crowded over.

"What?"

"This... this is an alien?"

"Exposed directly in space without spacecraft—how is that possible?"

"It definitely isn't carbon-based!"

"Why would it appear here?"

They were all captivated by the giant hovering in satellite orbit.

"Let me check the other feed."

"Got it."

"This isn't just imagery. The satellite's detecting extremely strong energy fluctuations from this alien!"

The satellites in orbit were comprehensively observing this giant—completely unknown to them.

It was far too mysterious.

Why appear in Earth's satellite orbit?

Why remain motionless after appearing?

What was it trying to convey?

"We have to report this to NASA headquarters!" Wilson immediately recognized the severity, rushing to contact headquarters.

Simultaneously, another technician called out: "The European Space Agency detected the giant too!"

"No, not just ESA!"

"Canadian Space Agency... UC Observatory... Arecibo Observatory... every astronomical institution in the Western Hemisphere has spotted this giant!"

"Even some amateur enthusiasts found it!"

"This... this is definitely another world-shaking discovery!"

In this moment, countless astronomical institutions were buzzing over the giant's existence. This was their first time witnessing an alien firsthand!

At the same time, they all shared the same question.

This alien giant... what will it do next?
