Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Finn Forces Her to Apologize to Grace

A flicker of panic flashed across Grace's face. She hurried to explain, "Kristen, you've misunderstood. Finn and I aren't what you think."

"Don't call me that," Kristen said, brows knitting, a line of disgust between them. "It's nauseating."

Fake concern for her to her face while flirting with Finn behind her back—how could someone be this shameless?

Grace kept shaking her head. Her eyes went red at once, tears brimming.

Kristen wasn't buying it. Her voice turned cool. "I don't want a man who's been tainted. If you want to steal him, go ahead—I'll gift-wrap him. But the role of Leng Yue? I won't give that up, and you won't take it from me."

She turned to leave.

"Kristen…" Grace suddenly caught her hand, tears falling in fat drops. "You really misunderstood. Finn and I are just good friends, you—"

Before she finished, Kristen yanked her hand free, impatient. "Have you had enough of this act?"

"Ah—"

Grace suddenly toppled toward the main road, and a car sped by from behind at that exact moment.

Everything happened too fast. Before Kristen could react, a dark figure lunged in, grabbed Grace by the wrist, and hauled her firmly back into his arms.

Finn lowered his head to look Grace over, tense. "Are you okay?"

Grace shook her head, tears flooding her face. She trembled with fear, yet still said, "I'm fine. It wasn't Kristen's fault. I was careless."

At that, Finn turned to Kristen, fury stamped across his features. "You almost got Grace killed just now—do you understand that? How can you be so vicious?"

A chill swept through Kristen. The scene felt painfully familiar.

In that dream from her wedding day, Grace had invited her to visit the set. They were chatting by the roadside when someone bumped Kristen, and Grace fell with her—just as a car happened to pass…

Grace had nearly been hit, and Finn arrived in time to pull her to safety. Grace's assistant swore Kristen had pushed Grace.

The story hit the internet. Grace's fans doxxed Kristen and photoshopped memorial pics, she was pelted with eggs and paint outside her home, and Finn locked her in the house for a month—cutting the internet, forbidding the staff to speak to her—before finally forcing her to apologize to Grace in person.

If the wedding had gone ahead that day, then today…

Kristen drew in a deep breath, lowered her lashes, then looked up. "I didn't push her."

"I saw you push her with my own eyes. Am I blind?" Finn snapped, certain of what he thought he'd seen.

"Possibly," Kristen said, tone flat. "Since you are blind."

All she'd done was shake off Grace's hand. She hadn't pushed her. This was obviously Grace's deliberate setup…

"Kristen!" Finn's voice rose, ragged with fury. "How did you suddenly become like this?"

Looking at the man who used to be gentle and tender to her now twisted with rage for another woman—glowering at her—sorrow and relief surged in waves through Kristen's chest.

Relief for that dream. Relief that after discovering his cheating, she chose to break up.

She didn't argue with Finn. Instead, she took a step, then another, toward Grace, and asked in a cool, clear voice, "Grace, did I push you?"

"I…" Grace pressed her lips together, words catching. As Kristen drew closer, she flinched back on instinct. "Ah—"

This time she truly fell to the ground.

Kristen turned to Finn, a hint of challenge flickering in her enticing eyes. "Did you see clearly this time? I didn't touch a single hair on her head."
