Chapter 37 - Chapter 37

Year 1503 of the Sea Circle Calendar — The Birth of a Legend

The year 1503 marked the birth of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy destined to reshape the seas.

In 1504, Kaoru Tsubasa journeyed to Fishman Island, where he met King Neptune and his daughter, Princess Shirahoshi. By chance, he also crossed paths with the fishman hero Fisher Tiger—the same man who would one day lead the charge against the Holy Land of Mary Geoise.

1505 — The Shanks Connection

A year later, Kaoru sailed into the territory of Red-Haired Shanks, only to find the Emperor gone. Kaoru knew exactly why—Shanks was hunting the fabled Nika Fruit. Destiny would later twist that fruit's fate into Luffy's hands.

1506 — The Attack on Mary Geoise

In 1506, Fisher Tiger sought Kaoru out on Redoria, inviting him to join his assault on Mary Geoise to free the enslaved. Kaoru accepted. Together, they stormed the Holy Land, toppling walls and shattering chains.

During the operation, Kaoru met the three Hancock sisters and entrusted Silvers Rayleigh with escorting them safely back to Amazon Lily. That same year, Kaoru encountered the young fishman Arlong, who would one day terrorize the East Blue's Cocoyasi Village.

Kaoru handed Arlong four photographs and gave him a solemn warning: never harm these four people should he meet them in the future.

Though puzzled, Arlong agreed. The faces in those photos—Nami, Nojiko, Bell-mère, and Ken—were fated to cross the seas of destiny. The pictures, naturally, had come from Kaoru's mysterious system.

1509 — The Red-Haired Emperor Returns

Shanks and his crew sailed to the East Blue that year. None knew what he did there, only that when he returned to the New World, he was missing an arm. The world was stunned. How could the rival of "Hawk-Eye" Mihawk lose an arm in the weakest of seas?

After that, Mihawk was universally hailed as the world's greatest swordsman—though he himself denied the title. Rumors whispered that Mihawk acknowledged another blade stronger than his own.

Shanks once told him: "There's a man in the New World whose sword burns brighter than mine."

1510 — The Birth of Brotherhood

In 1510, Kaoru learned that the ASL trio—Ace, Sabo, and Luffy—had formed their brotherhood somewhere in the East Blue. Three brothers who would one day move the hearts of millions.

1511 — The Duel of Legends

In 1511, Dracule Mihawk arrived on Redoria aboard his coffin-shaped ship to challenge Kaoru Tsubasa. The duel between the two greatest swordsmen raged across the island.

When it ended, Mihawk's black blade Yoru, one of the twelve Supreme Grade swords, bore a small but visible crack. The news shook the world. The man hailed as the world's greatest swordsman had been bested.

The World Government and the underground powers demanded Mihawk name his opponent—but he refused. Only a handful of people who truly knew Kaoru guessed the truth.

1512 — The Masked Savior of Enies Lobby

In 1512, a masked man stormed Enies Lobby and rescued a fishman sentenced to execution. The world was stunned. The act humiliated Cipher Pol, turning their title into a joke among pirates. Dozens of pirates tried to imitate the masked hero's feat, but all were captured, restoring CP's tattered reputation.

1513 — The Admiral Who Vanished

A year later, the world was shaken again. Zephyr, the famed "Admiral Who Never Kills," nearly lost his arm to a pirate known as Whitebeard II. At the crucial moment, the same masked man intervened—Kaoru Tsubasa.

Whitebeard II's ship was sunk, his fate uncertain. Zephyr vanished from public sight afterward, his disappearance baffling even the Navy.

In truth, Kaoru had brought Zephyr to Redoria. Zephyr claimed he was there to "supervise a dangerous man like you," but Kaoru suspected there was more to it. Regardless, Zephyr remained on Redoria, building homes and turning the place into something new.

1515 — The Birth of Redoria Town

Under Zephyr's guidance, Redoria transformed into a small, thriving naval town. More people came, drawn by its growing stability.

Kaoru, who preferred solitude—and wary that Olvia might be discovered—moved his home deep into the island's heart.

1517 — The Flame of the Spade Pirates

By 1517, the seas buzzed with talk of a new pirate crew—the Spade Pirates, led by Portgas D. Ace. Gifted with the Flame-Flame Fruit, Ace quickly rose as a supernova, his reputation spreading like wildfire.

1518 — The Son of Whitebeard

In 1518, Ace challenged Whitebeard himself—and lost. But rather than killing him, Whitebeard took Ace under his wing, naming him the Second Division Commander of his crew.

1519 — The Two Veterans

The following year, Garp arrived at Redoria and was stunned to see what Zephyr had built. Garp urged his old comrade to return to the Navy, but Zephyr refused, insisting his place was here, watching Kaoru.

Zephyr, in turn, tried to persuade Garp to retire beside him. Garp chuckled and said, "When that old goat Sengoku retires, I'll think about it." Still, he promised to visit Redoria once he did.

1520 — The World Shifts Again

By 1520, Kaoru divided his essence, sending a physical avatar to the East Blue. The pact he'd made with Sengoku had been fulfilled—he could now walk freely across the seas.

Meanwhile, the former vice admirals—Kuzan, Sakazuki, and Borsalino—had each risen to the rank of admiral, known now as Aokiji, Akainu, and Kizaru.

That same year, Mihawk returned to Redoria for a rematch. Once again, he was defeated, leaving Kaoru's blade mark etched across his chest. When Mihawk reappeared at sea, the world whispered: Who scarred the strongest swordsman alive?

"I choose the first," Kaoru said without hesitation. Only a fool would choose otherwise.
