CHAPTER 49
~Xena's POV~
I wanted to run away and tell Xade off or ask him why, but I didn't. I was not a kid to not know that Xade was falling for me.
I knew better than to run. I had to stop Xade and meet him with the same energy he was giving me.
But as soon as I realised what I was doing, I pushed against his chest, breaking the kiss. I didn't step away immediately, and that alone surprised Xade.
My face was hot. No doubt I was flushed, but what mattered most was maintaining my composure. I was an actress, and this role was simple.
I tilted my head slightly, studying Xade the way one does something dangerous and interesting. "You're awfully confident for someone who just admitted jealousy."
His brow lifted a fraction. "You think that's confidence?"
"I think," I said calmly, placing my palm flat against his chest, "that you're used to people freezing when you step this close."
His breath shifted. Just once.
