Fweeeep.
The integrated ID register beside a large rectangular shape hums as it analyses the chip inside the level 2 access card.
Beep.
The door slightly shook as the 20cm thick reinforced metal door opened apart, opening up to one of many laboratories inside this massive site.
Den returns his card into his pocket before walking in, the door behind him shut firmly as he hears a group of people around 25 or more, talking and clamouring about.
He thought that this was strange since researchers don't usually have any entertainment during work.
As he glances at the group and spots his now ex-mentor, Dr. Agatha Right, a senior researcher among the group of people.
She was responsible for mentoring him when he was an intern for 9 months, no longer an intern anymore as he is now a researcher, transforming his Level 1 access card to level 2.
He can still remember like it was yesterday, after graduating from his uni with a Bachelor degrees in Biology, Computer science and Chemistry, and Master degrees in Quantum Mechanics and Neuroscience, giving him an outstanding records and results, which he received a job offer from the SCP FOUNDATION.
He was stunned to see the monthly salary and all the benefits that come with it. After researching about the SCP and finding no result on it except that it part of 'governmental' property, he decided to go toward the location where they interviewed new hires.
He couldn't know anything until he signed the NDA and even then, he was only privy to knowing just the basic information. After signing the NDA, he doesn't remember anything due to memetic gas, but supposedly he went through a series of tests in a day to ensure that he isn't working for a rival group, and only then, did he learns of a whole new world.
The SCP Foundation was immensely larger than anybody could've believed, it currently has the support of all governments and its jobs are extremely important for humanity and for earth.
It only has one mission, to "Secure, Contain, and Protect". And why? The anomalous objects and entities, of course.
The foundation was founded in 1824 in order to secure and contain the anomalies while protecting humans from harm.
There are some SCP that can end all humanity in an instant.
And it is the job of us researchers to analyse and research all anomalies present, to better the containment procedure and to ensure the safety of humankind.
And the MTF guards are responsible to ensure no SCP ever breach containment, or worse, contaminate humans with deadly anomalous effects.
'Tough and poor bastards they are.'
And want to know the best part? Our technology is decades ahead of public technology to the outside world, and we get to research about this wondrous world of anomaly, granted if you don't die first.
The site that I'm assigned to is Site-221. We currently in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, on a floating massive island that is 30km² wide, Site-221 is a massive building that houses several large research sites and containment sites, let not forget about the invisible camouflage dome covering the whole island which protects us, with many other devices to ensure we won't be found.
Den sighed worried before walking up to the group, he then noticed Roger and Chester among them. It looks like the MTF crew are among the researchers too. This is new.
"What is going on, Dr. Right?" Den asked Dr. Right before she turned to him and sighs.
"Even if I'm not your mentor anymore and you already promoted from being an intern, I like to still be your mentor unofficially"
She smiles softly and nudges his shoulder.
"Just call me Agatha already"
Den shook his head stubbornly "No, you deserve so much respect, calling you by your first name serve you injustice and is unprofessional."
He huffed his chest and crossed his arms.
Agatha sighs dejected as she closes her bright violet eyes and rubs her forehead.
"Sweetie… aah… fine… But I'll get you to call me by my first name one day"
she smiles brightly, her wavy black hair that reaches to her shoulder blade swaying as she pulls him and moves toward one of the screens that everyone is equally observing.
"You know about the exploration mission that is going to take place today, right?"
she hums, and Den nodded
"Yeah, it's one of the special cases from the O5 council that permit the use and presence of SCP-8874"
she smirks as she points at the screen which shows live-recording of SCP-8874 currently watching a movie, snug and elegantly resting on the sofa, its mask hiding any facial expression, if it had any.
"We are making a bet whenever SCP-8874 obediently follows the order or breaks the spatial interrupter device to teleport over here."
Den stared in shock for a few moments before he felt an arm tug around his neck.
"Little Den~ What side are you going to bet on?"
Den let out a small cough from the tight tug before turning his head toward Roger, he had a wide snarky grin with scars covering most of his face.
"I don't know if I want to bet…"
"The winner will get the share of 50k"
Den froze before sighing.
"I bet that he will follow obediently…"
"Keke. I already bet that he will teleport here"
Agatha chuckles at the sight of Den suffering and Roger who is letting out a hearty laugh, smiling softly before clapping her hands to capture everyone's attention.
"Make your bet everyone, the betting will end in 13 minutes."
One of the two interns that arrived 3 months ago asked her a question about the SCP-8874 method of teleporting here without permission and the betting that is occurring, wanting to know if this is up to protocol.
"Um… Miss, wouldn't this go against protocol?"
Agatha glances at the intern before walking over to them and patting their head gently, making the intern blush from the closeness and her beauty. Of course, she would never see him as anything else but as 'family' like she does to everyone else.
"Of course it does, in normal circumstances. But with O5-approval and its track record of teleporting out of their containment cell and never attempting to escape outside the site, plus prior warning to rest of the personnel and guards, it's perfectly fine~ And the betting thing, it improves everyone's morale too. So two birds with one stone"
She chuckles before plopping a candy in the intern hand, Den sighed, knowing that this is how his ex-mentor behaves. She acts motherly and warm toward everyone, including the humanoid SCPs.
He still doesn't understand how she could be so warm as a senior researcher, not everyone could keep most of their humanity while working here, especially as long as she has.
"Of course, we are not neglecting our duties, it's just that today's occasion is very special so all of us are free, except those monitoring and guarding the Keter and occasional dangerous Euclid class SCP at the containment site"
she clapped her hands again, silencing everyone.
"13 minutes is now over! I will commence the announcement to SCP-8874. You better hope you haven't chosen the wrong side for a bet!"
she smirks proudly as she walked over to a microphone attached to the monitor device, she clears her throat.
"Ahem…"
she activates the intercoms, flicking the red light to green light which signal everything is functioning properly.
"Good morning, SCP-8874. We require your…"
