Chapter 3 - The Mission Brief

"-ton to alert us that you're ready, and we will escort you there."

The static stops as the intercom turns off.

I glance at the camera, smiling widely as I know what is going on over there.

"Look like you guys are having fun, huh. I wonder what I should do~"

I hop off my sofa as the end credits finish rolling. I manifested a black wooden chair in front of the camera and sat on it, humming.

"You guys are doing something fun without me… So… Should I teleport over there like usual? Or should I press the button and go over there with escort~"

I snicker as I lean back and cross my legs.

***

"Teleport over here! Come on!"

"Press the button for Christ sake!"

"No, don't press the button! Stop edging us you bastard!"

"Come on you faceless bastard! Press the button!"

"If you aren't a…"

This went on for several more minutes as Den shook his head at the heated words spewing out of his fellow researchers and MTF soldiers' lips.

He glanced around and saw Chester, Agatha and 2 interns at the back. Purposefully not entering the heated trash talking.

Step. Step.

"Ches. What side did you bet on?"

Chester, who was watching in amusement, froze for a moment before realizing who's talking to him.

"Ah… I betted on the third choice."

"there was a third choice?"

"Of course not, but Agatha approved of it 4 minutes ago. I bet that he won't do what any of us predicted."

"aah…"

Den leans forward and glances at Agatha, who is sitting and eating a bowl of popcorn where he has no idea where she got it from.

The monitor speaker turns static as audio comes out. "Oh? Some of you calling me bastards? Mh… what should I do… I have the sudden urge to do whatever opposite you want me to do… Decision, Decision…"

Its voice has a tinge of teasingness and playfulness in it.

"W-Wait! I'm sorry! Please don't teleport!"

"I-I will give you a 5-day coupon from the cafeteria if you teleport! Please!"

"I will…"

The interns look worried about their future and wonder if they will become just like them. Agatha chuckles at the scene, Den sat beside her and asked confused

"Dr. Right, how long will this nonsense continue?"

"Oh sweetie~ It already ended the moment I used the intercom… Fufu…"

"What do you mean Dr. Ri-"

A new voice that wasn't heard during the whole scene appeared.

"Ah, so I was discovered? Aw… I wanted to.. Munch munch… watch this scene much longer, you know. Munch munch... although that is what I like about you, Agatha. Always observant and intelligent… Munch…"

At that exact moment, everyone who was pleading for forgiveness and arguing in front of the monitor turns silent. They recognise the voice.

The static voice from the monitor turned amused

"Aw… Looks like I was caught already…"

***

The 'me' in the monitor crumbled apart as everyone turned to face me, everyone finally understood that the 'me' in my containment cell was a doll.

The entire time, I was beside Agatha, sitting on a smooth soft chair. Eating a bowl of popcorn.

"You really ought to let us study and understand how that state of yours works…"

Agatha mused as she observed me.

Roger spoke dumbfounded toward Agatha.

"H-How did you know that SCP-8874 was here the entire time?"

Den and the others turned their heads toward her, also wondering how she could spot me when none of them could've.

She casually pointed at the bowl of popcorn she had on her lap and was eating from during the whole thing.

"This is the surveillance area of the lab… There shouldn't be any snacks or food here, yet there is."

Den froze as he remembered seeing a large bowl of popcorn on one of the tables, but he thought it was due to Dr. Right, wanting to make this whole thing more entertaining.

' "...Understand how that state of yours works"... Ah right… in the file of SCP-8874, in the part of where he was discovered, he went unnoticed for several days in front of the camera just for their entertainment.'

Den thought before I cleared my throat.

"Ahem, So ladies and gents, mind filling me with what this special mission is about?"

Chester cough and Roger responded

"Well, according to the danger and unknown location my team and I were about to enter. Your experience and ability will come useful."

I stare at them before glancing at Agatha, her face finally turning serious.

"With the permission of the Site Director, we have discovered that SCP-249 shows a new response when in 100cm of a new anomalous object we secure in the experiment. The object has no other anomalous effect besides being extremely malleable despite being a diamond, its class is safe and titled SCP-249-A. This is the first time SCP-249 doesn't randomly lead to any location, it constantly leads to the same location when in the same area as the crystal."

I froze and stared at her, I don't remember any SCP-249-A. Excitement slowly boils up as I realize that there is indeed something I don't even know.

"Oh? Really?"

Agatha hum as she expected this reaction from me, since she's been conversing with me whenever she's not busy, she's currently the only SCP researcher that has deep insight about my personality, and for good reason too.

She's empathetic, a sharp contrast to the SCP Foundation and how they act.

"According to the live-recording feed we received from our D-Class scouts, its location is not on earth."

"And survivors?"

"All deceased."

I lean back and sigh deeply.

"I see… Alright, this shall be fun… The random door now is not so random anymore…"

Agatha chuckles at my pun as her, Den, and Roger with his MTF squad signal me to follow them.

We walk out of the lab and toward the containment site.

For several minutes, nobody chatted, everyone was now in their professional mode.

After going downstairs 2 times, Roger and his squad walk in another direction as the 5 researchers and I through countless maze-like hallways that have no doors or containment cell in 1000m radius.

Standing in front of a thick metal door that led to the decontamination room which led into the massive room.

In the middle of the containment cell, a single windowless door, covered in faded white paint.

That is SCP-249.

Or rather Nicknamed "The random door."
